5 Jagddivision |
The 5 Jagddivision was
originally formed in Schleissheim in June 1943 from the
Jagdfliegerführer Süddeutschland. On 15 September 1943
it was redesignated 7 Jagdivision. On the same day the 5 Jagddivision was re-established in Paris (Jouy-en-Josas) from parts of the höherer Jagdfliegerführer West. On 26 January 1945 it was redesignated 16 Fliegerdivision. The commanders of the 5 Jagddivision were:
While in the occupied West, the headquarters were located in Paris (Jouy-en-Josas) in the period September 1943 - August 1944. Before and after this period the headquarters were located in Germany. In the period September 1943 - October 1944 the division was subordinated to the II Jagdkorps. Before this period it was subordinated to the XII Fliegerkorps and after this period to the Liftwaffenkommando West. The actual code name for the unit is unknown, but the callsign for Sprechfunk was VIOLA. More information on the unit's headquarters can be found here.
