Map number

The strongpoint is located on the beach and in the dunes immediately to the east of the end of the Bray-Dunes promenade. The dunes are a nature reserve called Les Dunes du Peroquet.

Tactical function

Besides functioning as company headquarters and protecting the beaches to the east of Bray-Dunes, the strongpoint also served as an observation post for HKB Blei (1/6/43: 6/AR18). On 1/6/43 a small Heer detachment was also located here.

Comments In front of the R637 a concrete 3-Schartenstand can be found partially buried in the sand. Especially interesting and rare are the remains of a concrete-covered trench. In addition, the strongpoint still has remains of quite a few emplacements, (mortar)Tobruks, and quarters. Finally, the strongpoint also still has a French observation bunker.

Below are some impressions of this strongpoint
The numbers below refer to the above map(s)
1. R637 Meßstelle für Heeresküstenbatterien

Frontal and rear view of the R637,

which served as Leitstand for the Heeresküstenbatterie Blei.

2. R219 2-Schartenstand
R219 2-Schartenstand built with Formsteine and a double flanking wall on the beach
3. Vf6b Beobachtungsstand (Schußsicher)

The Vf 6b Beobachtungsstand of the Stützpunkt itself.

4. R502 Doppelgruppenunterstand

An R502. The two entrances were on the side of the sunbathers.

One can just notice the flanking walls.

5. 3-Schartenstand

A concrete MG 3–Schartenstand in front of the R 637.

Today the Scharten are no longer visible.

6/7. Tobruks

The site contains no fewer than 6 Tobruks. The first pair can be found on the eastern side of the position in rather thick vegetation. The one on the left is a Tobruk for a mortar.

The right one stands upside down.

A second pair can be found in clearer terrain in the centre of the position.

The one on the right is a Tobruk for a mortar

This Tobruk for a mortar is situated just behind the R219.

Walking from the R219 to the R502 one comes across this position for a mortar. It is not really a Tobruk, but is related in function to it.

8. Emplacements for 5cm KwK
Two similar emplacements for a 5cm Kampfwagenkanone. The one at the top is on the extreme eastern side of the position close to the beach. The one at the bottom is located on the western end, adjacent to the first block of flats on the beach front.

More inland on the western side of the position (and not on the above map) we found this brick emplacement for a 5cm KwK or a MG. On the right picture we

can see a brick trench connecting the emplacement with a quarter behind the dune.

9. Toilet bunker

The position contains a rare Vf-toiletbunker with a message inside warning

users to close the toilet lid in order to avoid infection.

10. Brick quarters

A brick quarter in the centre of the position, not far from the two Tobruks.

It may have had a Wellblech roof.

11. Covered trenches
Two parts of a concrete-covered trench.
Looking through the front one the rear one can be spotted (middle picture).
12. Unknown structures

Two unknown structures (but again not on the places on the map). The left structure is on the

western end of the position between the brick emplacement and the beach. The right one is close to the westernmost of the two Tobruks at the centre of the position.

13. French observation bunker

More inland on the eastern end of the position (and not on the map above) we found this almost completely disappeared French observation bunker. It has observation slits on three sides and an odd hole on the fourth.
