1 October 1944




To the southwest of Sint-Lenaarts the enemy, after crossing the canal, attacked further to the northwest.

In continuation of his attack from Sint-Lenaarts itself the enemy entered Brecht but was stopped in the centre of the village.

From his bridgehead at Rijkevorsel the enemy also continued his attack to the north and northeast, during which he passed Zondereien to the west and east. The attacked could be stopped to the south of Baarle-Nassau.


Enemy reconnaissance and artillery activity increased in the area to the east of 's Hertogenbosch.


2 October 1944



The 64 Infanteriedivision is experiencing heavy artillery fire from the area Middelburg-Aardenburg.
Combat operations against the resistance in Merksem and Schoten are continuing.
Enemy armour is proceeding from Sint-Job-in-'t-Goor to Maria-ter-Heide. Heavy fighting is ongoing.
From the Rijkevorsel bridgehead the enemy has, with a small number of tanks, been able to push forward some 2.5km past Baarle-Nassau. Much armour was signaled along the Merksplas-Weelde road. Strong enemy fighter-bomber and bomber activity in the area between Baarle-Nassau and Oirschot (10km to the northwest of Eindhoven).
Enemy reconnaissance activity from St-Oedenrode to the northwest was prevented.

3 October 1944



As a result of the strong enemy pressure from the southwest, southeast and northeast the bulge in the main front line to the north of Antwerp was cleared and a new shortened main front line was established between Lillo and Maria-ter-Heide.

An armour-supported enemy attack in regimental strength from the Zondereigen area to the north led to the loss of Baarle-Nassau and the area 3km to the west of it. Own stopping line is being established (in general terms) from Staakheuvel (10km to the northwest of Turnhout) - 3 km to the west - 1.5km northeast of Baarle-Nassau - Poppel.


An enemy attack 7km to the west of Oirschot was repulsed.

4 October 1944



The enemy broke through the right wing of the 711 Infanteriedivision near Lillo (11km to the northwest of Antwerp) and pushed on until Berendrecht.
Pushing forward on the road from Baarle-Nassau to the north the enemy entererd Ulicoten.
Two kilometres to the west of Poppel enemy armour in unknown strength pushe northwards and were stopped south of Maarle.
The 85 Infanteriedivision was taken out of the line south of 's Hertogenbosch and is being transferred to the area southwest of Tilburg.

5 October 1944


An own attack from the area 2km southeast of Ossendrecht (north of Antwerp) on Berendrecht was halted by enemy fire at the edge of the wood to the northeast of Berendrecht. To the east the enemy broke through the own main front line and pushed on until Putte.
Attacks near Maria-ter-Heide were repulsed.
From the area Baarle-Nassau the enemy attacked via Alphen in the direction of Tilburg. After hard fighting he was stopped north of Alphen. An own ounterattack threw back the enemy and is ongoing.
An own attack from the northeast on Poppel is slowly developing.

6 October 1944

An own attack is in progress against the enemy incursion in the southern sector of the 64 Infanteriedivision, 15km to the northeast of Brugge.
Enemy harassing artillery fire on the outer harbour at Vlissingen
Between Ossendrecht and Putte an own stopping line was occupied (using strongpoints)
An enemy armoured attack to the north was stopped east of Maria-ter-Heide.
Renewed enemy attacks to the northwest of Alphen resulted in small local territorial gains and were stopped. All attacks to the norheast of Alphen were repulsed.
The 85 Infanteriedivision started an attack on Meerle (9 km to the south of Tilburg (Breda?)
Enemy armoured recce explored east and norh of Hilvarenbeek (10km south southeast of Tilburg) to the west.
In the sector of the 59 Infanteriedivision there was continued strong artillery activity.

7 October 1944

Own counterattacks by the 64 Infanteriedivision against the enemy bridgeheads north of Moerkerke were not successful.
Own attacks against Ossendrecht (18km north northwest of Antwerp) also failed.
The enemy, meanwhile, continued his attacks. Contining enemy pressure in the area around Brecht.
Own attacks in the area north of Turnhout reached an area 1,5km  norrtwest and 1km north of Meerle.
Apart from harassing artilery fire, no specific combat operations.

8 October 1944

A numberof enemy attacks from the bridgehead 2,5km west of Sint-Laureins to the east were repulsed by the 64 Infanteriedivision.
In the sector of the 346 Infanteriedivision fighting was going on in Hoogerheide. The enemy succeeded in reaching an area 1km to the northwest of Kalmthout (18km to the north northeast of Antwerp). The incursion was brought under control.
Intense enemy activity in the sector of the 711 Infanteriedivision.
Reconnaissance by both sides to the north and east of Alphen.
An enemy attack was repulsed north of Poppel.

9 October 1944

While keeping up the strong pressure against the southern front of th 64 Infanteriedivision the enemy landed with 4-5 batallions and armour at the northeastern tip of the bridgehead and estblished a 3-km deep and 6-km wide bridgehead  Some 3 1/2 batallions, among which 2 companies of the 70 Infanteriedivision, were able to secure the bridgehead. The situation remains tense.
The fighting for the land onnection to Walcheren near Woensdrecht continued.
The own attack against Hoogerheide slowly gained ground after heavy and costly fighting on both sides. The attacking forces reached the centre of the town.
The enemy which had pushed forward to the railway line to the west of Woensdrecht was destroyed.
An enemy incursion on the road De Vleut-Liempde was eliminated.

10 October 1944

The strong enemy pressure from the bridgehead at Stroobrug (4km north of Maldegem) to the northeast continues.
In the bridgehead at Biervliet, the enemy was able to capture Hoofdplaat after hard fighting. A stopping line was established 500m west of the village.
In the area Woensdrecht-Hoogerheide enemy attacks were repulsed.
Near Maria-ter-Heide the enemy broke through the own main front line with armour. One incursion was stopped; another eliminated.

11 October 1944

Strong enemy artillery fire on the southern sector of the 64 Infanteriedivision, south and southeast of Aardenburg.
An own attack from the south against Biervliet has started.
Srong enemy bombing raids on the port and batterie positions of Vlissingen.
An own attack north of Woensdrecht to the west along the railway line re-established the land connection to the 70 Infanteriedivision, after the enemy had previously succeeded in interrupting it.
An enemy attack north of Maria-ter-Heide resulted in local incursions, which were stopped.
In the rest of the army sector there was increased enemy artillery activity.

12 October 1944

Enemy attacks from the bridgehead south of Hoofdplaat to the west were repulsed. Renewed attacks, after strong artillery preparation and with the help of armoured flamethrowers, are ongoing.
Enemy attacks against the sector Woensdracht-Hoogerheide as well as northwest of Maria-ter-Heide were repulsed.
The own attack from the east against Ossendrecht has reached the road Woensdrecht-Putte, 3km sotheast of Hoogerheide.

13 October 1944

Own artillery attacked enemy landing craft at the beachhead Hoofdplaat.
From Biervliet the enemy attacked to the southwest. 3km east of Ijzendijke and 4km east of Watervliet the attack was stopped.
An enemy armoured attack 3km to the west of Woensdrecht against the railway line was repulsed after hard fighting.
The own attack against Ossendrecht only gained little ground
Intense enemy artillery harassing fire against the area Alphen.(18km north of Turnhout)
The enemy carried out artillery attacks on the Oirschot area (12km northwest of Eindhoven)
The LXXXVIII Armeekorps has taken command of the former sector of the LXXXIX Armeekorps. The latter will be transported by rail to Heeresgruppe G, where it will relieve the XXXXVII Panzerkorps.

14 October 1944

The 64 Infanteriedivision - now directly subordinated to AOK15 - stopped an enemy incursion 3km east of Sint-Laurijns.
From his bridgehead south of Hoofdplaat the enemy further attacked to the south and was able to make contact with the enemy forces to the south of the division. In a further attack to the west the enemy gained further ground.
The arrival of the 256 Volksgrenadierdivision in the Breda area was delayed by bomb attacks on the railway line.
The struggle for the isthmus near Woensdrecht continued with increasingly bitter fighting
The 85 Infanteriedivision repulsed enemy attacks 2km east of Hoogerheide with the elimination of one incursion.
Enemy reconnaissance action north of Maria-ter-Heide (sector 346 Infanteriedivision) failed.
Continuing enemy artillery and mortar harassing fire.

15 October 1944

15 Armee:
64 Infanteriedivision: Enemy attacks from the Hoofdplaat bridgehead to the west gained ground.
Continued enemy pressure against the isthmus west of Woensdrecht.Intense enemy artillery fire. Single armoured reconnaissance attacks were repulsed.

16 October 1944

15 Armee:
64 Infanteriedivision:
The enemy continued his heavy attacks with tanks and flamethrowers from the Hoofdplaat bridgehead to the west. and succeeded in making deep incursions. A stopping line north of Ijzendijke to east of Waterland-Oudeman was established.
70 Infanteriedivision:
The flooding of Walcheren continues as a result of renewed attacks on the dikes.
The enemy succeeded in entering Woensdrecht after hard fighting. He was kicked out again by our own counterattack.
Northeast of Maria-ter-Heide and north of Brecht (20km northeast of Antwerp) enemy armoured reconnaissance attacks were repulsed.
No specific combat operations apart from continuing strong artillery fire with heavy concentrations near Poppel, Oirschot and Nuland.

17 October 1944

15 Armee:
64 Infanteriedivision:
The enemy attack from the Hoofdplaat bridgehead with the support of (flamethrowing) tanks gained further ground to the west. Ijzendijke and Waterland were lost.
70 Infanteriedivision:
On Wallcheren the western dike near Westkapelle was again hit by strong air attacks. The flooding increased.
To the north of Antwerp enemy attacks against Woensdrecht were repulsed.
Only a few unsuccessful enemy attacks. Intense enemy artillery activity.

18 October 1944

15 Armee:
64 Infanteriedivision:
In hard fighting the enemy was able to gain firther ground to the west from the Hoofdplaat bridgehead. He achieved deep incursions, which resulted in a pulling back of the main front line.
70 Infanteriedivision:
As a result of continuous floodings on Walcheren, seevral units are being moved to South-Beveland.

19 October 1944

15 Armee:
64 Infanteriedivision:
The enemy continued his attacks and achieved new incursions in the area 3km east northeast of Oostburg.
70 Infanteriedivision:
More floodings with increasing water levels on Walcheren.
85 Infanteriedivision: enemy armoured reconnaissance attacks in the Woensdrecht area were repulsed.

20 October 1944

15 Armee:
64 Infanteriedivision:
The enemy carried out armoured reconnaisance against the southern and the eastern side of the own bridgehead south of Vlissingen.
In the sector of the 85 Infanteriedivision the enemy achieved deep incursions northwest, south and southeast of Kalmthout. He pushed forward to the road Maria-ter-Heide - Breda at Wuustwezel. Some tanks are south of Loenhout.
Very heavy artillery and mortar fire on the remainder of the corps sector.
An enemy armoured attack on the road Poppel-Tilburg was repulsed.

21 October 1944

15 Armee:

70 Infanteriedivision: the enemy covered the harbour entrance and lock of Vlissingen with artillery fire.

64 Infanteriedivision: in continuation of his attack from the east the enemy entered Breskens and blocked the port. Partial support for the division through alternative harbour was ensured.


Enemy attacks from the east against Woensdrecht were repulsed.

In the area to the north northeast of Antwerpen the enemy, in continuation of his attacks, was able to make deep penetrations. A thin stopping line was established between 3,5km ENE Huijbergen - 8km SSE Rosendaal - 6km N Wuustwezel.

A regimental group of the 245 Infanteriedivision attacked to the southwest and succeeded in occupying the area 1,5km northeast of Wuustwezel where the attack stalled.

An enemy armoured attack starting from Loenhout was repulsed at the eastern town exit.

Further enemy attacks against the left flank of the corps were repulsed.


No particular combat actions.

22 October 1944


15 Armee:
64 Infanteriedivision: enemy attacks south and east of Oostburg and west of Breskens were repulsed.
Several enemy attacks near Woensdrecht were unsucessful.
In continuation of his strong attacks to the north of Antwerpen the enemy entered Spillebeek (10km south southwest of Roosendaal). Fighting is still ongoing. Schriek (8km south southeast of Roosendaal) was lost.
A regimental group of the 245 Infanteriedivision attacked to te southwest and captured Kruisweg (north of Wuustwezel). It was thrown back on Braaken by a concentric enemy attack.
Attacking to the west the enemy made a penetration east of Berlicum.
The enemy, who had penetrated until 4km northeast of 's Hertogenbosch, wthdrew to the northeast.
In order to economize forces a withdrawal is currently ongoing on the line Loenhout - Meer - Ulicoten - old front line nearAlpen - Goirle - Moergestel - front line noth of Schijndel.

23 October 1944

15 Armee
64 Infanteriedivision: the bulge in he front line southeast of Oostburg was the eastern limits of the town.
70 Infanteriedivision: as a result of an attack by 120 four-engined bombers on the port of Vlissingen both lock doors were heavily damaged.
An enemy attack against the railway berm north of Bath as repulsed.
Northwest of Hoogerheide the enemy broke through to the railway berm 3km north northwest of Wonsdrecht, thus effectively cutting off the land connection to Walcheren. Fighing is still ongoing in and north of Woensdrecht.
An own counterattack 2.5km west of Essen ran into an enemy armoured attack.
An enemy attack from the west against the northern town limits of Nispen was contained.
Several enemy attack on either side of the Essen-Nispen road were repulsed.
Continued enemy pressure against the rear forces of the 59 Infanteriedivision.
The artillery positions of the 712 Infanterieivision are currently in combat with armour which had broken through, while numerous infantry attacks were repulsed.

24 October 1944

15 Armee:
64 Infanteriedivisin: due to strong enemy pressure the main frontline was taken back to a line Oosburg - 1,5 km northwest of Breskens.
70 Infanteriedivision: enemy attacks west of Woensdrecht against the land connection to South-Beveland are still ongoing.
A new heavy vomber attacked was directed again the port of Vlissingen.
A reinforced regimental group of the 10-SS Panzerdivision was attached to 15 Armee.
In the area north of Woensdrecht the enemy was able to push back our own advance units.
Fighting on both sides of Nispen is still ongoing.
Enemy attacks from Essen were essentially repulsed.
In the area of the 256 Volksgrenadierdivision an enemy attack along the road from Oirschot to the northwest was repulsed.
The enemy continued his strong attacks against our own eastern front  South of Sint-Michielsgestel the enemy captured he villages Esch and Hal. North of Hal the enemy further atacked to the north. The enemy was contained north of Esch.
In the southeastern part of 's Hertogenbosch the enemy is attempting to cross the canal.

25 October 1944

15 Armee
64 Infanteriedivision: the enemy continued his attacks against the eastern front and captured Oostburg and Groede.
70 Infanteriedivision: after having been reinforced the enemy attacked our own stopping line to South-Beveland north of Bath. The enemy managed to make a penetration and was contained 5km north northwest of Bath.
Continuing his attacks against the front of the 85 Infanteriedivision the enemy made local penetrations, which could be eliminated. Fighting is still ongoing.
Enemy attacks south of Tilburg were partailly repulsed by the 256 Volksgrenadierdivision in counterattacks.
An enemy attack on Esch (7km south southwest of 's Hertogenbosch was repulsed. Own counterattack against Hal (north of Esch) was unsuccessful.
The enemyn aided by civilians, captured the southeastern part of 's Hertogenbosch.

26 October 1944

15 Armee:
64 Infanteriedivision: several enemy attacks, supported by armour, against the own main front line were repulsed and local incursions eliminated. Own counterattack is in progress against the incursion 2km southwest of Groede.
70 Infanteriedivision: the enemy landed on the southeastern tip of South Beveland and broadened his bridgehead to northwest of Oudelande and north of Baarland. Further enemy attacks were repulsed here. The containment line of the Bath isthmus had to be pulled back both sides of Krabbendijke.
The enemy continued his strong attacks against Roosendaal. The enemy was contained northwest and northeast of Wouw. Hard fighting is still ongoing in the incusion area at Meer (16km south southwest of Breda).
The enemy penetrated the own main font line between Tilburg and 's Hertogenbsch. The situation is still unclear.

27 October 1944

15 Armee:
64 Infanteriedivision: no new reports
70 Infanteriedivision: from his bridgehead on South-Beveland the enemy gained further ground in attacking to the north and northwest.
Against the own containment line at the South-Beveland canal the enemy continued attacking and established a 400-metre deep bridgehead near Vlake. Own counterattack was unsuccessful.
An enemy crossing attempt near Wemeldinge was repulsed.
In the evening the enemy entered Bergen-op-Zoom. A counterattack has begun.
The enemy, who had attacked 3km east northeast of Bergen-op-Zoom to the railway line, was thrown back.
An own counterattack was started against the enemy who had advanced to the railway line south of Heerle.
Own rear forces 14km south southwest of Breda were pushed back further north by a superior enemy.
To the east of Breda the enemy advanced with infantry and armour to the railway line southwest of Rijen.
In the face of an enemy attacking from all sides Tilburg was given up. Own rear forces were forced to conduct a fighting withdrawal to the railway line northwest of the city.
Loon op Zand, which had been occupied by the enemy, was retaken by own counterattack.
From 's Hertogenbosch the enemy is pushing forward to the northwest. The situation is unclear.

28 October 1944

15 Armee
64 Infanteriedivision:
The enemy attacked along the road from Oostburg to the northwest and reached Zuidzande.
70 Infanteriedivision:
The enemy enlarged his bridgehead on South-Beveland to the north after strong artillery preparation.
Near Wemeldinge (northern entrance to the South-Beveland canal) the enemy succeeded in breaking through with some tnks on the road Wemeldinge-Kapelle
was taken by the enemy. Enemy armoured attacks north of the city were repulsed. After hard fighting Heerle and Wouw were lost. A stgopping line was established north of these villages. Hard fighting is still ongoing here.
Enemy pressure towards Dongen intensified. An own attack by the 719 Infanteriedivision to the east of Breda gained little ground.
After heavy artillery preparation and use of fighter-bombers the enmy again entered Loon op Zand. Own forces ar retaining the northern boundary of the village.To the east enemy armoured attacks were repulsed.

29 October 1944

On 29 October at midnight (night 29/30) Armeegruppe Student assumed command of 15 Armee, Wehrmachtsbefehlshaber Niederlande and 1 Fallschirmarmee, while shedding LXXXVI AK, XXXXVII PzK and Korps Feldt to 5 Panzerarmee.
15 Armee:
64 Infanteriedivision: no new reports
70 Infanteriedivision: on a broad front the enemy attacked from the South-Beveland canal to the west and, after hard fighting, captured Goes and 's Gravenpolder. The relocation of strong forces of the 70 Infanteriedivision to the island of Walcheren has been started.
The enemy attacked with strong forces against the entire southern front of both corps. Northeast of Bergen-op-Zoom enemy forces reached as far as south of Moerstraten. The enemy made deep incursions west of Roosendaal, east of Breda, north of Dongen, west of Loon op Zand, which were contained in hard fighting.

30 October 1944

64 Infanteriedivision: no particular combat activity.
70 Infanteriedivision: the majority of own forces and weapons of the division were relocated to Walcheren. An own bridgehead east of the dam of Arnemuiden was established.
As a result of the overwhelming eney pressure against the entire southern front of both corps the main front line was taken back to a line: Steenbergen - Oosterhout - Geertruidenberg - Heusde, while leaving advance posts The enemy followed over a broad front and made an incursion east of Oosterhout, which could be eliminatedin hard fighting.

31 October 1944

15 Armee:
64 Infanteriedivision: supported by heavy artillery the enemy again made deep incursions in the eastern front line. The integrity of the main front line was lost in several loctions.
70 Infanteriedivision
The own bridgehead east of Arnemuiden was pushed back. Enemy attacks against the narrow passage to Walcheren itself were repulsed. The dam to Walcheren was by a 25-metre wide and 10-metre deep bomb crater
An own counterattack against the incursion 2,5km northeast of Standdaarbuiten is in progress.
An attack against the crossroads 2,5km southeast of Zevenbergen was repulsed.
An enemy incursion on the Breda-Dordrecht road was essentially eliminated.
In the area Geertruidenberg continued fighting against attacking enemy. The situation is a yet unclear. The order for blowing up the bridges at Geertruidenberg and 3km to the northeast has been given.
Enemy crossing attemps across the Oude Maas were repulsed.
