bootable maken met BartPE
For those downloading the update from within the program itself, please also
download the updated ini-file afterwards. This will then preserve your "My
Choice" settings. For the changes done, please see the Version History
further down this page.
I was thinking about having some kind of portable office with
me, on an USB-key, which would give me the ability to start different applications from one
central point, without having to install them first. I also wanted to have the
ability to scan computers for viruses and spyware. All utilities used are
freeware.
The use is very simple. The first time you have to make sure you
have an internet connection, because the application you want to start, will
have to be downloaded first. You can start the application, just by clicking on
the icon. While moving the mouse cursor over the icon, you will also see a short
description of each program.
The program has an PortOff.ini file. This file contains the
web links to the download sites of the applications. If an internet address or
filename should change, you can adjust this ini-file, and save the changes.
The total size on your USB key after downloading all applications, is
approximately 370MB OpenOffice.org Ortable included.
The total size on your USB key after downloading all applications,
OpenOffice.org Portable excluded is about 200MB.
This program is Freeware. The spreading and use is allowed and
encouraged. The program will come to you as is, without any warranty what so
ever. The developer will take no responsibility for any material, financial,
intellectual, social or other harm done, by using this program.
Multi-language Support:
The program is using a ".lng" file for language settings.
The default language, when the file is downloaded, is set to English.
Supported languages up to now: For previewing,
click on the flag.
More languages to come?????? Any volunteers willing to translate? Just
download the English.lng, translate
it by using an editor like "Microsoft ® Notepad" or "EditPlus", save the file and
mail it back. I will then add it to
the Portable Office Exec.
If interested in the Source files,
just send me a mail.
Download
PortableOffice.zip,
and use a zip/unzip program like
winrar or
winzip to extract the program to a location you specify, and start PortOffice.exe from that location.
Once the applications on the tabs "Office", "System" and
"Miscellaneous" have been downloaded, they will not be downloaded again, when
you want to run one of them again. The tab "Antivirus" will always try to download
the program first, before starting it, to be assured, the program is always up-to-date.
You could add an AUTORUN.INF. Todo so, create a file with the name of
AUTORUN.INF, place it in the root folder of the USB-key. Extract
PortableOffice.zip into a folder "PortableOffice". An example off an AUTORUN.INF
could be as follows:
[autorun]
action=Launch Portable Office Exec
icon=PortableOffice\PortOffice.exe
open=PortableOffice\PortOffice.exe
label=Robvdb
includeRuntimeComponents=True
Help Files: are already included in the
downloadable files. (Available
languages up-to-now are English, German, Dutch and Bulgarian. Sorry
no French or Italian versions yet)
Known issues:
When you attempt to run a Visual Basic (VB) application on a computer that is
running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP
and you are not logged in as an Administrator or you do not have Administrator
rights, you may receive the following error message:
Component tabctl32.ocx or one of its
dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.
Users who are logged in as an Administrator or who have Administrator rights do
not receive an error message.
To resolve this problem, grant the user the necessary permissions to the
control.
PortOffice.exe will then register the ocx-files needed, and which come with the program, during
the start-up of the program. Once PortOffice.exe is closed, the ocx-files which
where registered during the start-up of the program, will be unregistered again,
leaving nothing behind on the guest-machine.
More info on this issue can be
viewed here.
If any other issues should come up; Please let me
know.
Version history
Version 1.2.7
Catalan Language support was added (Thank you very much Joan Hernandez i
Gil)
Users who have already a previous version, can update Portable Office Exec
through "Settings - Download Updates"
Version 1.2.6
Finally I found a way to get the newest version of Avira AntiVir, version 7,
working through Portable Office Exec. So AntiVir version 6 has been replaced
with the latest one...
!Note for users who have already a previous version, and update Portable
Office Exec through "Settings - Download Updates";
After the program has been updated, you also have to update the PortOff.ini file
through "Settings - Download Ini-file".
This to avoid losing the settings for the "My Choice" tab, and to make sure the
new changes are working.
Version 1.2.5
I had to make some modifications to the program, as the most recent version
of Foxit Reader, has had a change of name.
I have added some extra lines to the ini file

Version 1.2.4
A new button has been added to the "My Own" tab, to adjust the USB-Drive
letter. This is necessary if your own application our running from the same USB
key, but you are putting the USB-key in a different computer, providing the
USB-key a different Drive letter. If you than hit the "Adjust USB-Drive
Letter..." button, the ini-file will be updated and reloaded, to the new
situation.
Version 1.2.3
Because of some Portable apps changing from a normal xxx.zip file to an
xxx.paf.exe I had to do some modifications to the program itself, as well as
adding 7za.exe to the program to unzip this new format.
Version 1.2.2
"a-squared HiJackFree" has been placed on the Antivirus tab and "Portable
Opera @USB" has been added to the "Miscellaneous" tab.
!Note for users who have already a previous version, and update Portable

new added program is also working.
Version 1.2.1
Some suggested to have
OpenOffice.org Portable also available with Portable Office Exec. That
is why I've added this option through the
File menu.
Please be aware of the fact, OpenOffice.org Portable is approx 180MB big. The
download size of the zipped file is about 91MB. This zipped file will be deleted
again, once the download and unzipping was successful.
For those who already have a previous version of Portable Office Exec, first download the update through "Download updates" and afterwards "Download ini-file" to update the ini-file.
Version 1.2.0
I had to make some modifications to the program, as the most recent version
of Portable Miranda IM, has had a change of name.
I have added some extra lines to the ini file
Version 1.1.9
Hungarian Language support added (Thank you very much Zoltán Kökényessi)
Version 1.1.8
I had to make some modifications to the program, as the most recent version
of Portable AbiWord, has had a change of name.
I have added some extra lines to the ini file. Also the link
to "Restoration" has been updated. Also there seemed to be a
problem with "Comdlg32.ocx" in the "My Choice" tab. Problems
fixed. (Thank you Hartmut, for
pointing out all mentioned problems)
Version 1.1.7
I had to make some modifications to the program, as the most recent version
of Portable Thunderbird, has had a change of name.
I have added some extra lines to the ini file
Version 1.1.6
I had to make some modifications to the program, as the most recent version
of Portable Firefox, has had a change of name.
I have added some extra lines to the ini file
Version 1.1.5
I've added a new menu item "Download
Updates". This will download only the
Updated files for Portable Office Exec, rather then downloading the complete program again.
Fixed the problem of "My Choice" settings being overwritten, each
time the PortOff.ini file was downloaded through "Settings" - "Download Ini-file".
Version 1.1.4
Because of the fact that AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic, since a few months, is
no longer changing the main program, it is of no use to have it downloaded every
time again.
Therefore, once the main program is downloaded, only the updates will be
downloaded automatically when clicking on the icon. If the main program hasn't
been downloaded yet, it will be done together with the updates.
Version 1.1.3
Added some colorful icons to the menu's...
Version 1.1.2
Greek Language support added (Thank you very much Jim Jimmys)
Run-time error 424 - corrected.
Did some modifications on the menu items, added F1 - Help support.
Version 1.1.1
Spanish Language support added (Thank you very much Thissvald Guillermo)
Version 1.1.0
I tried to solve the issue with the Icons on the tab "My Own" loosing to
much of their resolution. I'm saving the extracted icons as BMP files. I hope
this solved the problem.
Version 1.0.9
A new tab was added, "My
Choice". Here you can define up to 10 executables of your own, to be
launched from within Portable Office Exec. These programs you want to launch,
will not be downloaded first as all of the others. You will have to have them
already on the system or USB key, but you can refer to it by using the "My
own settings..." button.
Version 1.0.8
Bulgarian Language support added (Thank you very much Niki Radnev)
Bulgarian Helpfile added (again thank you very much Niki Radnev)
HelpMenu item added to Portable Office Exec.
Version 1.0.7

on the "Office" tab: "EssentialPIM Free"
on the System" tab: "PuTTY" and "Restoration"
on the "Nice to have" tab: "Portable Winamp" and
"a-squared HiJackFree"
Version 1.0.6
Althought strickly "Shareware", but full functional, I've added "Spread32"
to the "Office" tab.
The "PortOff.ini" also became a facelift, to make it more synoptic.
Version 1.0.5
Italian language support added (Molto grazie Simone Grassini)
Version 1.0.4
Because of the changes since 01-03-2006 on the Antivir Software, the Virus
Definition Files (VDF) are appearently no longer updated,
when downloading "AntiVir
PersonalEdition Classic Version 6".
Therefore I added an extra routine, so the updates are downloaded separately,
and added to the program,
before starting "AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic
Version 6". Also an extra download link is added to the PortOff.ini file
Version 1.0.3
Added "MemTest" to the "System" tab.
