| Graphics: the art of putting art onto a piece of art | |||||||||||||

At the end of all building work, you want to do some decorative work to top up your marvelous deck and that's when questions are arising...how do you do this or what can I use for it... |
| My latest deck: | |||||||||||||
| Here I used spraypaint cans for the basic background of the deck...3 colors were used to get a fluent transition from red to yellow with a flare of orange inbetween... | |||||||||||||

| Next I used the red and orange to spray some texture into the orange and the yellow...this was done by spraying through some fiberglass mat...not the easiest thing to do...aka "never to be done again!"...The word "Long..." that vanishes into the red was done by cutting out letters from masking tape...and sticking them on the right spot... I used my old airbrush pistol to trace the edges... |

| Then I cutted the "Toothless" lettering out of a piece os masking tape and sprayed the letters with spraypaint...when dry I covered them again and sprayed some shadow... | |||||||||||||

| The longboards lettering was added in a smaller size and I sprayed the shark using my airbrush again...All was covered with a few layers of varnish to protect the graphics... | |||||||||||||

| I added Tracker Dart 219 trucks and Abec 11 Flashbacks to the deck...it's been used for a while now and the graphics are still on there...It turns heads also when you post the deck against the wall in the pub... | |||||||||||||
| Eva's new deck: | |||||||||||||

| Here are 2 partners in crime...Eva is into printing stuff...Romeo is into arts and snapping 800 pictures an hour...Although Romeo is looking a bit "odd", he is chewable after being boiled for 10 hours in hot vinegar...They are the graphic department of the dodgy, non existent Toothless longboard building enterprise experimental facility base headquarters...Crossing the street when you see one of them can cause severe brain damage...combined with a utter case of "do I know you?" fever...you've been warned!... | |||||||||||||

| Eva painted a 6mm birch plywood panel with a 50/50 acrylic paint/water mixture...and afterwards some red was added to get this pink mat finish...She thought that pink would be the total opposite to the slime green Abec11 Flashbacks she's got...Superb!!! Romeo,the local artist who did my nr10 deck also, is responsible for the picture... Silkscreen printing was done and now the panel is ready to be glued together with another 6mm panel in my freaky little press system...I'll add a layer of unidirectional glassfiber between them in conjunction with epoxy resin to get the perfect bond of the panels...it will also stiffen up the deck a bit because Eva wants to turn it into a Malibu shaped cruise deck... |

| Here's a close-up of the typical summer afternoon beach padding flesh heap...I can smell the sunbathing oil already :-) |

| Eva and I did some more work on her deck...some other print has to go on-to the upper side off the deck...We also found out that a layer of 500gr/m² glass fiber really is an improvement to the deck...it's more stiff but still can bend quite easily... Next is the finishing stage with some more layers of varnish and the attachment of those Randal trucks with slime green Abec11 Flashbacks... |

| Again, Eva made a small silkscreen with the lettering she wanted to go on-top...and while preparing the screen, she added already the lettering for the next deck onto it...type FE-03 /53A then... That's the 3rd Fiberglass Epoxy deck that will be built...53A is related to the designers (aka partners in crime:-)... All is ready for adding griptape... |

| A narrow striping was wanted by Eva...to give an accent to the top print...She also wanted those truck mounting nuts to be visible in the tape...hell of a job to get this right...but I succeeded...needless to say that they are cutt after applying the tape...never again!...or not...dunno... ;-) | |||||||||||||

| Her deck is ready for a spin in Amsterdam...I hope the weather will permit it...The end result looks perfect...pro-finish, dedicated work done to it...would do nicely in a shop and be sold straight away I presume... Next one coming up is in the same trend, with Romeo's artwork...an impression of the graphics on Eva's deck... Printing is already done and the deck sits in the press... More later... |

| Another solution: | |||||||||||||
| I received a mail from Peter Ankeny with info about the TopSkin product he added onto his decks...It looks like a fabulous sollution as you can design whatever you want and have it prepared and made by this company: Original Snowboard Art Here's a picture of Peter's deck...looks very very good!...well made deck also! |
