For many years AJ Beirens has been involved with offshore and onshore radio in Western Europe.  Experimenting with formats that would guarantee total relaxation and offer stressfree and even destressing enjoyment, he found the most soothing sound to be the eternal breaking of waves upon the sea shore.

How the Sea Sounds were captured

The main culprit in capturing these sounds of the sea was Ghent media student Jürgen Corveleyn, who (sacrificing his Halloween holiday) went to town, or rather to sea...,  with a HHB type PDR100 mobile DAT recorder and a Sennheiser MD421 microphone.

Bruges is world famous as one of the "jewels" in Belgium’s crown. It lies within easy driving distance of Knokke-Heist and is well served by both trains and buses. Why not combine a trip there with a stop at Damme, the famous village of Uilenspiegel where you can experience life in the Flemish-Burgundian style – snug cafes, renowned bars and restaurants side by side with charming little art galleries, nestled around the grand town hall dominated by the statue of Jacob van Maerlandt.

A visit just across the border in the Netherlands is well worth your while. The busy shopping town of Sluis is only 6 kilometres from Knokke-Heist and is a bustling commercial centre with a tempting mix of Dutch and Belgian foods and restaurants. A working Windmill provides the centre piece to this attractive small town that provides an interesting day out for bargain hunters and families alike.
