A b(l)ooming plant to last a summer long
Of this little plant more than 1 200 varieties are known. They still grow wild in the tropic and subtropical areas. A remarkable concentration is still found in South and Middle America and in Mexico. The plant grows in grove, with a lot of unranked stalks. The leaves offer colours from dark to brown green and show an egg or lancet form. They are gently hairy. The
modern varieties produce a mass of trumpet-like flowers. They can be found
in the axils of the leaves and bloom in a variety of colours: pink, crimson
pink, red, blue, violet, white...
Since long, the different varieties of the achimenes are popular as an indoor plant; it’s an easy flower to take care of. In spring, we put
the little bulbs under a lay of black earth from circa 1 cm. By room
temperature, already after a week the plants are beginning to grow. The plants
become a length of 25 to 30 cm and bloom the whole summer. These flowers are
magnificent in your living area or veranda. The plant loves a moderate temperature; take care of that the flowerpot never dray out. Stop giving water when the plant is blooming out. This plant likes an area with lots of light, but avoid direct sunlight. Even avoid draught.
