An antique show and sale featuring Pre-1940 Native American arts, world ethnographic arts, and antiquities, returns August 12 - 15. Formerly at the Eldorado Hotel, the show has now moved to its new home in the spacious, air-conditioned Shellaberger Tennis Center at the College of Santa Fe.
Collectors and decorators will find a range of quality basketry, beadwork, textiles, pottery, rugs, cowboy items, early weapons, children's items, quilts, folk art, and jewelry at the show. Important western art and photography from the 19th and early 20th centuries will also be offered, as well as early ethnographic arts and antiquities from Africa, Asia, and Oceania. This year, Pre-Columbian and Spanish Colonial art and antiques will also be featured.
Opens Thursday evening, August 12th, 2004 with a charity benefit reception from 6:30 – 9 pm that will benefit, in part, the National Dance Institute of New Mexico (NDI-NM).
Tickets ($50) are available only at the door. All are invited, and everything will be available for sale.
The National Dance Institute of New Mexico was founded with the knowledge that the arts have a unique power to engage and motivate children. The purpose of its distinctive dance programs is to help children develop discipline, a standard of excellence, and a belief in themselves that will carry over into all aspects of their lives. Last year, the NDI-NM In-School program directly taught 4,300 public elementary school students and reached an audience 51,000 parents and community members.
The Dance Barns at 1140 Alto Street are home to a growing After-School program — the NDI-NM School for the Performing Arts — and “Teaching Excellence” workshops where dancers from across the U.S. and abroad learn NDI teaching methods. The 2004-2005 school year marks NDI-NM’s tenth year in New Mexico. All NDI-NM programs are open to any child, regardless of his or her ability to pay.
This year, organizer Barry Cohen (
) has recruited 75 nationally recognized exhibitors who offer consistent quality across a broad spectrum of prices.Among them are senior authorities, "rising stars," and collector-dealers not frequently seen on the show circuit.
They include:
