This is the largest and longest running show for historic antique Indian Art. In reality, Whitehawk Associates’ “week” of antique
shows is so big it takes ten days. For twenty-six years, these pre-eminent
promoters of antique Native American art shows have produced the largest and
oldest show of this type in the country. Set up with gallery like booths, the
show is a stylish affair attended annually by anyone looking to purchase
museum-quality Indian artifacts. Dealers from around the country wait for this
show, holding their finest selections acquired throughout the year. This year’s
Invitational Antique Indian Art Show is August 10-15.
Although it is considered a specialty show, the Antique Ethnographic Art Show,
August 10-12, is far broader in scope than Whitehawk’s other two shows.
Considered one of the best and most eclectic shows in the country for ethnic
material, the scope is worldly, just as it should be. Latin material is, of
course, a big draw in this southwestern art capital. From Mexico to Panama to
Chile, material from every country south of the border is sure to be seen. The
Santa Fe Ethno show has tribal material which spans the globe east to west from
New Guinea to Nepal to Nigeria. North to south, treasures can be seen from
Tunisia to Togo to Tanzania. Big to bitty, from an antique bead to a Chinese
bed, the possible finds are too numerous to mention. Of course, as we all know,
half the pleasure is in the hunt !
The newest and possibly most exciting event this Santa Fe season may be
Whitehawk’s addition of an antique western fine art show. The Fine Arts of the
American West Antique Art Show, August 13-15, will feature western art at its
best, be it Bohlin saddles or Taos Society paintings. Whereas art auctions have
been a part of the Santa Fe art scene for years, an antique western art show
bringing together the country’s leading dealers under one roof is a new and
needed addition to the art world. Come and participate in this great new event
on the New Mexico horizon. From spurs to master painters, this is the show that
captures the spirit of the Old West.
All three shows begin with an evening preview. Savor a festive dinner buffet as
you sip wine and view all that will be offered for sale during the following two
show days of each event. More information can be found at www.WhitehawkShows.com
