traditions Rome Rome shows signs of African art Over 100 works buck stereotypes and reveal thriving culture (ANSA) - Rome, March 3 - A fascinating new exhibition here seeks to give visitors a glimpse of African art and culture and buck some stereotypes in the process. The show, entitled "Segni e simboli: i linguaggi nelle tradizioni africane" (Signs and symbols: languages in African traditions), opens at the city's Biblioteca Angelica on March 6 2006 .

- In Milan there are not museums of African art (there is a project for a Museum of Non-European Arts with pieces from the collection of Ezio Bassani, but it doesn't exist now). I completely agree with Margalit's opinion about the Missionary's and Collector's Museums.
In the center of Milan, in Via Borgonuovo 5 (near Via Montenapoleone) you will find the Dalton-Somaré gallery who is surely the best dealer in town (daltonsomare*hotmail.com) . (...)

- In Bergamo there are at least 3 places to visit:
The Caffi museum of natural history in the upper town of Bergamo in Piazza Cittadella 10 -24129 Bergamo-Istituto di Geologia e Paleontologia,Tel: +39 035 286020- , there is a new and fine section with good African pieces (entrance is free)

-In Urgnano (a small town near Bergamo) there is the Museo Africano with a small but interesting section with pieces from the Monti collection (www.museoafricano.it )

In Capriate (between Milan and Bergamo) there is the Vittorio Carini private library and collection, I really suggest you to go there but of course you have to contact Vittorio and take an appointment (www.webdomino.com/africanbooks )

- In Verona (quite far East from Milan, but a wonderful town !) you can visit the Etnie galleria www.etniearte.com vicolo Cavalletto 4/A (Arche Scaligere) 37121 Verona- Tel +39 045 592502 etnie @ libero. Nice pieces not too expensive.
- In Bologna (far South from Milan) you can go to the Denise & Beppe Berna gallery but you have to take an appointment (beppe.berna*tin.it)

If you will be in Milan at the beginning of the year and you have the time, I suggest to go to Turin and visit the exhibition organized by Ezio Bassani ( www.mostraafrica.it ). There are a great number of masterpieces from Nigerian museums, Tervuren, Metropolitan, the Ross, Malcolm, Goldet colletions etc. You can go to Turin in an hour by train from Milan and it is really worth a visit. It will last until the mid of February.
