Hood Museum of Art,
Dartmouth College
|
The collections of the Hood Museum of Art are diverse and
wide-ranging in these areas. Number nearly 15,000 objects, the
collections include significant works of visual culture, most notably
from Africa, Oceania, and Native America. The museum's holdings of 1,500
African art objects, recently augmented by several major acquisitions,
include works from all regions of the continent. The holdings of
Oceania, augmented by the Patten and Franklin Family collections, number
nearly 2,400 objects and include important works of art from every major
geographic region of Papua New Guinea. The artistic and cultural
traditions of Native America are represented by a collection of nearly
11,000 objects, which is especially strong in pottery, basketry, and
beadwork.
