Madison Promenade

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dear $email,

Madison Promenade May 10-16, 2010 to Highlight First Annual New York Tribal Art Week

WHO - For the first time in the United States the world’s leading tribal art galleries and dealers will participate in the New York City Tribal Art Week - Madison Promenade. The selection of participants, each with their own unique areas of expertise, will provide a tribal art experience of the highest caliber. Those participating are: Alaska on Madison, Arte Primitivo, Huber Primitive at Kasler, Bonhams, Gail Martin Gallery, Nasser & Co. Gallery, Pace Primitive, Sotheby’s, Tambaran Gallery, Throckmorton Fine Art, and Gallery J. Visser.

WHAT - The Madison Promenade gallery walk exhibitions will showcase traditional African, Asian, Oceanic,American and Asian works of art of the highest quality, including rare masterpieces as well as more affordable items.

WHERE - The Upper East Side of New York City, particularly along Madison, is home to some of the world’s leading tribal art galleries. Appropriately, these galleries will host the first annual Madison Promenade during New York City Tribal Art Week. Exclusive New York galleries on or near Madison Avenue will be joined by non-New York dealers who will exhibit in gallery spaces along Madison Avenue from 57th Street to 86th Street.

WHEN - May 10 to 16, 2010, coinciding with the Sotheby’s and Bonhams Tribal Art auctions.

Please see attached schedule of events for detailed information.

WHY - Historically, New Yorkers have been among the foremost collectors of tribal art.

New York politicians, artists, business leaders, professionals, fashion moguls and elebrities such as Helena Rubinstein, Nelson Rockefeller, Andy Warhol, John Friedy and Robert Mapplethorpe have solidified the international tribal art market.

The goal of the Madison Promenade and New York Tribal Art Week is to bring together those who share a common interest in the arts and to inspire a greater public knowledge of the cultural importance and artistic significance of non-western art forms.

Local and visiting collectors and aficionados, as well as anyone interested in tribal art or simply wanting to learn about this fascinating art form are invited to join the Madison Promenade gallery walk. There is no admission charge and everyone is welcome. This event will provide the opportunity to rediscover New York City’s galleries, which are among the best in the world, and will take place annually much like Asia Week.

A full-color printed guidebook showing the location and hours of each of the participants is available and can also be found on  www.madisonpromenade.com .
