Review: Art offers new perspective on racism -

Basically, the play is about a bitter battle of words and wills between North, who wants to use his executive power as museum director to make African culture more prominent in a museum famous for its European painters, and Barrow, who insists the museum's exhibits must not be changed just to suit North's agenda.

The Africa Museum Belgium Confronts its Colonial Past
Generations of Belgian schoolchildren have tramped past glass-topped cases of insects at the Royal Museum for Central Africa , a few miles southeast of Brussels . Now this moldering dowager, created by Belgian King Leopold II around the turn of the last century, is one of the most fascinating museums in Europe. It now features a controversial new exhibition on the Belgian colonial era in Congo .

Vienna Museum of Ethnology - Austrian valuable antiques include  Afro-Portuguese ivory carvings which date from Archduke Ferdinand II of Tyrol 's "art cabinet" at Ambras Castle and which constitute the most ancient pieces of the collection. The museum owns three saltcellars, carved horns and several 15th and 16th century spoons, executed in a very fragile technique.

Selling African Art: Investors and Ancient or Modern Art from Africa

The wealth of Africa resides not just in its gold mines, diamonds and oil. It exists inside its people, especially its visual artists who educate the rest of the globe about both the continent's ancient history and modern life. Seven exhibitions of contemporary work from Africa are on view now until at May 9 at five Houston museums.

African Sculpture from the New Orleans Museum of Art in NYC

Through June 5, 2005 the museum has on display a collection of African art on loan from the New Orleans Museum of Art. The theme of the exhibit is the relationship of African art to American jazz, which means it's a perfect fit for Queens , a borough known as the "hometown of jazz." The collection comprises 19th and early-20th centuries art from Central and Western Africa with outstanding examples of Yoruba religious sculpture.
