Mid-April 2007 newsletter
Dear African
Art lover,
It has been a while that I have emailed you, but everything is fine. The
Tribal Art market is still alive and kicking, and I have never seen so many
objects appearing on the market.
For this edition I want to show you a Kuyu (44 cm) I found that has many
similarities to the one once owned by Vérité that you can see in the
Tribal Arts of Africa on page 119.
I am preparing my exhibition in Brussels from 6-10 June 2007 that will be in a
new location.
Brussels is certainly worth booking a ticket to this year, with many events
and exhibitions at the same moment, certainly the important Willy
Mestach exhibition is a must see.
Those interested in Benin
Art should attend the symposium in Vienna.
I also have some Museum news for you and a report on stolen items.

Strange News:
Enough Australian
Art, I'll take the curry pie. Some insights about Australian paintings and
other things.
Christie’s has closed its American Indian art department, and as a result
Delia Sullivan, department head since 1999, has left Christie’s. “Christie’s
has canceled their May sale at Rockefeller Center, and we are discontinuing sale
plans in this category for the foreseeable future,” said Sara Fox, a Christie’s
spokesperson....Apparently, if a department does not bring in
multimillion-dollar totals, Christie’s considers it redundant...

Ebay_rap from
the discussion group
Loud auctioneers and whispering gallierists have a poor or restricted
vocabulary compared to the one used by some E-Bay dealers who, for promoting an
object which is supposed to be "collectable" /"collectors
quality" or "museum quality", use adjectives with absolutely
"no reserve".
But let's take the good side of it: this avalanche of adjectives is, for a non-english
speaker, an excellent-wonderful-interesting & exceptional opportunity to
refine one's knowledge in the english vocabulary - and, for the
non-marketing-hooked-english-speaker, a source of amusement (hopefully)..
