THE New Orleans EXHIBITION IS NOW ON VIEW IN The Texas San Antonio Museum of Art

The Museum for African art was on Broadway and moved to Long Island City. They present exhibitions on traditional African art and also on contemporary African art. You can easily go visit them when in New York, just take the 7 subway to 33rd street in Queens, and walk three blocks to 36th street. It is only 15 minutes from Manhattan. On view there now is an exhibition with XIXth Facing the Maskcentury pieces coming from the New Orleans Museum, and a small exhibition related on South African Art.

You will find them back in Harlem Manhattan in 2006, read below.

Or you can also have a look on the educational facing the mask section they made.

African art museum to move to Harlem

found  at Big News Network.com     Wednesday 2nd March, 2005  (UPI)

The Museum of African Art will break ground next month in Harlem for a $50 million museum, officials announced Tuesday.

The museum opened 30 years ago on New York's upper East Side and has occupied various locations since then, most recently an interim site in the outer borough of Queens.

The new site is a full block front on Fifth Avenue between 109th and 110th Streets, just north of the Museo del Bario, a center for Latin-American and Caribbean art, and the Museum of the City of New York.

A spokesman for the museum said it will total about 60,000 square feet on three floors and will provide space for temporary exhibits as well as a large permanent collection, only a fraction of which could be shown at previous sites.

New York City has pledged $8.5 million toward the project and the rest of the cost will be raised through a capital campaign.
