The new Emerald Rietberg Museum extension who opened in february 2007 is
splendid. With its high ceilings and three levels down it give a daylight
feeling. The use of glass, wood, and precious stones is incredible. One level
for the African Art, and two others for Asian, and Oceanic.
You will be able to see the Tschokwe they bought at he Vérite auction in
Paris.
Also the fact that you can see all pieces and turn around is very pleasing.
Certainly worth the travel, director Mr Homberger and it's team did a great
job

Thanks to great public success – 2002 and 2003 had the highest attendance
figures in the museum’s 50-year history, with more than 90,000 visitors –
and because of lack of exhibition space, Zurich city council decided in spring
2001 to enlarge the museum. In April 2002, the public works department of the
city council invited tenders for the project.
The winner was the joint proposal “Canopies of Emerald” from the architects
Alfred Grazioli (Berlin) and Adolf Krischanitz (Vienna and Berlin). The title of
the proposal is a reference to the poem “In the Hothouse” written by
Mathilde Wesendonck, the first occupant of the Villa Wesendonck, which was set
to music by Richard Wagner.
