Half-way between the new stock exchange building and the famous Bahnhofstrasse, in the old botanical gardens, lies a treasure you would not expect in this neighbourhood: self-testimonials of foreign peoples, materialized in their objects. In changing exhibitions and various events the Ethnographic Museum of Zurich University presents to the public this world of non European cultures by means of particular objects and rare documents. The Ethnographic Museum opened in 1889 and is a place for research and the presentation of cultures outside Europe (religion, art, crafts, society). The collection contains objects from cultures around the world. Worth mentioning is the extensive comparative textile collection. A visual archive with films, videos and photographs is incorporated into the Museum. The up-to-date library is open to all

Sculpture in wood from the Senufo, Bambara, Dogon, Baule-Gouro, Dan, Bundu, Bakuba, Baluba). Nice group of Bronzes from Benin, and a collection of Ethiopian material (Minister Alfred Ilg).
