AICC 2005 - Season
Preview
The stage is all set for the 2005 season ... and what a
thrilling carnival of cricket it promises
to be! Following a unanimous choice, Hiren Parikh will continue as captain and Ricky Gandhi will remain
vice-captain. Hiren, who recently featured in the crowd favorite Paan-Parikh
Paan Parag commercial along with Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, roared out a warning message to all other teams
aiming to hit title glory "This is the strongest ever AICC squad and for
the first time we have started training well in advance." Hitesh Patel,
who has marked his availability for the campaign after missing out last
year has stressed for veteran team members such as Lalit Nahata and
Hemang Shah to continue playing for as long as possible. "These guys have
been around for many years and we've had some glorious moments together.
One of the key reasons to our success has been the way team AICC have
fought as a unit and it would be a real pity to see a mass
exodus of these AICC legends." His comments followed Chetan Mehta's
announcement to retire from the game and opt for a commentator's role along with Nimish Mehta who has now taken over umpiring duties.
Meanwhile, spin-wizard Shehul Zaveri has been cleared by the ICC of his
teesra; the delivery that caused havoc and mesmerized last year's opposition
batsmen. Despite receiving several criticisms, Shehul
confidently said "The ICC don't have a problem with it so let's just get
on with the cricket. I will use my unique gift to help AICC take the
championship this season." The team commences their campaign on the 8th
of May against an all-strong Pakistan Greens side determined to take
their second consecutive league title. The Rumst stadium has already been a
sell-out and security has been tightened due to the
presence of the ambassador of Pakistan.
