On May 28, 1944, this Lancaster was shot down by a night fighter. The wreckage was found in the Moenebroek, a marshy area - now a nature reserve. The whole crew perished and was buried at Geraardsbergen Communal Cemetery.

During the excavation a lot of smaller fragments were found, including instruments, oxygen bottles and a fire extinghuisher. An impressive piece is the propellor hub, with wooden fragments of the prop blades. This is now on display in the BAHA Collection Geraardsbergen.
