What happend to 2nd Lt Eugene Maben remains unclear, but wartime reports
suggested he suffered an oxygen failure whilst flying a combat mission
on October 18, 1943. His 355 Fighter Group Thunderbolt dived into the
soft clay near Croix-lez-Rouveroy. The engine was found at a depth of
five metres. The parachute bag contained the parachute log on which the
pilot's name was mentioned.
