On Sunday, April 17, all the provinces of Flanders are cooperating in “Erfgoeddag” (“Heritage Day”). The theme this year is “Danger”. Our association has been asked to play a role in all this. Last year, a major excavation started in the centre of the city of Aalst (Eastern Flanders). The remains of a medieval convent were found at the Hopmarkt, but also the almost intact remains of a large air raid shelter, dating from WW2. Some graffiti is visible, and on that very day, the public is welcome to visit this rather unique site. Especially for Erfgoeddag, BAHAAT was asked to assist in an exposition
in the local communal museum “Oud Hospitaal”, which will last two weeks.
Some artefacts, related to the air war and air raids over our regions
will be moved from the BAHA Collection towards this event (for more info
: However, the BAHA Collection Erembodegem will be open for the public as well (Erembodegem-Dorp 80, behind the shop “De Maalsteen”, see also http://www.erfgoeddag.be). That same day the local shopkeepers of Erembodegem are organising a so called “Top dag” with a major meeting of VW Beetles, Mini Coopers and Midget Cars. All the events mentioned above are free of admission.
