Buick Skylark
1981
Once upon a time........
I needed a car fast! because the trusted small Renault decided to get
a bit expensive but this I told you already.
So I bought this car and even tough it didn't looked like a million
dollar it sure did its job.
The only thing I had to take care of was those small rust spots here
and there and I still don't know why this car interested me, but it did,
enough to spend some time at it and start working on the dozens
of small battle scars this car had.
(and I made one more on day one when I backed it up out of the
garage and wrecked the side mirror)
So after working on the car for a while the car got its fitting name,
"SPOTIE" and that was the most appropriate name I could give to a
car that had all kinds of colors like the original silver, yellow from
the primer, and some other colors I long forgot about.
But then one day: driving spotie over a bridge I notice a car standing
down below on the side of the road, the same as mine, brown Skylark 4
door.
And after seeing this car standing there for months we decide to check
that car out. Hmm no rear license plates (which over here means the car
is not registered anymore) automatic, cruise control, nice (dirty) interior
bucket seats, airco. ME LIKE!!
but who is the owner of this car? it sits at a big apartment complex,
what can we do? ring all the bells and ask the people? I don't think so.
The wife comes up with the best idea we could do, put a paper under
the wipers, like a 4 by 3 feet paper!! :^) and we wrote on it: are you
for sale, please call us with our tell. number.
this will attract the attention of the owner!
And sure enough, couple of days later the owner contacted us and
we bought Skylark number two.
That car I wrecked a day after I took some pictures of it!
and the next day, I bought Buick number 3. well I actually swapped
it agains some F***.
This car had the rust in all the GOOD places, meaning all the rusted
parts are the parts that are mint on the wrecked car.
So I did have to play a swapping game with doors and hood and
stuff and out of the two I could make one very clean machine.
This is the car you can see at the different stages of its restauration.
