Chevrolet Impala

1973

The Impala is one of those cars that never had been on my wanted list.

Driving around in American cars is nice, but I got the V8 virus growing in

 me.

for the last couple of months I was thinking about V8's, until  on a

Friday, after work we paid our weekly visit to the junkyard guy's.

The owner told us he had several cars coming in soon.

Impala's, good shape, old-timers, cheap, used by yack, yack,  yack,  yack, V8

WOW!!!  STOP!! rewind! come again, did ya say, V8????

A friend is warned about this and a system is set up to keep an eye out for

the arrival of these cars. ( I will drive by the place twice a week after work,

and he will drive by whenever he can )

So one day while working the cell phone rings, its the friend, all exited "the

cars have arrived, the cars have arrived!!. I can see them in the yard, there are

three of them! one four door, one sixty's and one hearse!

After work its junkyard time! Lets check these baby's out!

And there they are, a 1964 Chevy Bell air, a 1974 Chevy Impala converted

into a hearse and a four door 1973 Impala.

my first choice goes to the '64 but after seeing the inline six (which is not

running anymore) and the bad body, full of rust with pieces literally dropping

off ................ no thank you! to bad it would have been a nice ride.

the hearse, well, my friend is already all over it! and I don't like it!

so lets see the four door. Hum, looks good, not to much rust, engine? V8!!

Oh Yeah baby!! Documents?: last tech inspection 1983. 1983?!? say what! we are

1999 now! that's 16 years!! this car has been garaged for 16 years!

Now if this thing starts up after 16 years I'll want it!

One trip to the nearest gas station and a battery change later the key is

turned, well the starter is ok, in short it took only 3 times and that engine

roars again, flinging the cobwebs in all directions, scaring the mice out off

there nesting place.

Well I'll be damned! 16 years and it starts the moment the gas reaches the

carb! That's what I like about American cars, they are so strong!

As soon as my little wife sees the twinkle in my eyes she must have thought:

oh boy, here he goes again!!

And then my biggest surprise came from the wife: "honey since its your

birthday in a couple of months and I don't have a present yet, I'll give it to

 you as your birthday present!!!!"

OH BOY! I'm getting a V8 for my birthday!!

The restoration on this car has not started yet but you can see what she looks

like now and don't worry, she will get the full frame off one day.
