Chevrolet Silverado
1979
The story of the Silverado is a looooooong one.
Driving around for work one day I happen to see a full size pick up
standing in the yard of one of the not so successful garage owners
around town.
That same evening I told the little wife about this car and since she
has to drive by this place each day going to work I asked her to keep
an eye out on this truck.
The next few months this car just stood there, doing nothing, so I told
the misses to stop at this place and find out what the deal was.
The answer she got was : "not for sale" so I just left the guy alone thinking
my day will come!
The next few months nothing changed in the situation, so my wife
dropped in again asking again about the truck again and this time :
"yep its for sale, I want 3000$ for it. I wanted to convert it into a camper
but I changed my mind"
So the well trained (by me) misses started to ask the questions I always
like to know before purchase engine? condition? year? and such.
That night we talked it over again, engine: 350 diesel condition: engine is
good, body needs work (what else is new!) year it was builded: 1978.
Now the bad part is: the wife likes the truck (oh boy here we go again!!)
Now although the 350 diesel ain't the best block in existence its not that
bad, what is bad is his price!! so we dropped thinking about it.
a few more months go by and that poor truck just stands there not
moving at all so my wife decides to drop in again to see if the price went
down a bit and low and behold! it did!! 2000$! but sorry 2000is still
to steep for my likings so let the months fly!
after a few more months I felt the time was right to get into the deal
so I paid him a visit telling him that my wife was bugging me to take
a look at the truck and gave him the impression I did not wanted to
check it out but was just doing it to please the wife. (I know I'm bad! but
all is fair in war and buying cars!)
And yes the price went down again, (because the fuel pump craped out)
down to 1700$ so I just offered 1500$ thinking this was the lowest he
would take and he took it.
I only wanted the car if it was driving (that's my way to take care of that
fuel pump.
He did agree on the terms so that's the way the truck came into our possession.
all in all it took well over a year to get this truck but sometimes the waitin'
is worth it.
We did drive it for a year until the engine craped out and now it has a
inline six installed and is waiting its turn to be restored by .............the misses
all by her self without any help from me!!! so all I will do is take pictures
and let her try to do this.
And here is where the story ends, the wife left me and took this
truck with her! well its still in my garage waitin' to be picked up.
As you can never know what future brings, I had a hum hum slight disagreement with
the ex
and to make a long story short... after being told to "shove it where the sun don't shine"
Its still in my garage and one day... it will be fixed!
