Interview: Kirsten gets tanked with Fish

Fish, who recently returned to Belfast for a solo gig at the Empire Music Hall, is not what you'd expect from a rock legend. We caught up with the big man for a pint (or six) and a chat just before the gig…
Fish's current tour, in support of his latest solo album, 'Field Of Crows', may well be his last, as he admits that he's becoming increasingly interested in moving into the world of acting. He's already paid his dues, appearing in TV shows like 'The Bill' and 'The Young Person's Guide To Becoming A Rock Star' and he's now set to appear in his biggest project yet, 'The Jacket', which stars Oscar-winner Adrien Brody, Kiera Knightley and Kris Kristofferson: "I auditioned for it last November," says Fish. "I booked the this tour and then they phoned me in January and said that they wanted me for four weeks, but because of the tour, I couldn't do it, but I ended up doing all my stuff in one day."

However, while making movies and writing screenplays are Fish's main focus at the moment, he says that he hasn't lost his passion for music: "I think I've reached a crossroads, like I did back in 1982, except that the heady vibe that I once felt for music, I now feel for movies. This will probably be my last tour, because it is such a pain in the arse."

Although Fish stresses that a Marillion reunion will never happen ("If it was gonna happen, it would have needed to have happened over five years ago"), he says there's no animosity between him and his former band-mates. He's even making plans to do a series of larger-scale shows based around the band's classic album, 'Misplaced Childhood' next year and there are plans to release three double-CDs of three Marillion concerts from the pre-'88 days through both Fish and Marillion's web-sites. "I always said that if I lost the passion, if all that mattered was credit card numbers, I would quit, says Fish. It doesn't look like that's going to be the case for a long time yet.
