Derek William Dick here after referred to as Fish first came to the notice of music fans as the front man for neo progressive rock band Marillion. The band had secured a recording deal with EMI records in late 1982 and released their debut album Script For A Jesters Tear in 1983. The band through intense hard work had built up a strong and loyal following which pushed not only the albums but also the singles lifted from the albums into the charts. It was with the bands third album that things moved up a step. The album was called Misplaced Childhood and one side of the album was taken up with an extended piece, which gave the band a firm footing for a stage show, which was built around the suite of songs. The album was released in 1985 and between the albums release and the end of the world tour to promote that album in 1986 the band performed Misplaced Childhood numerous times. Following the tour the band set about working on the follow up album, which duly appeared in 1987 entitled Clutching At Straws. Again the band toured in support of that album and following touring duties again began work on the proposed follow up. Unfortunately that follow up would not include Fish as the front man as a split had emerged between Fish and the rest of the band. Both ultimately went their separate ways with the debut album from Fish, Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors eventually being released in early 1990. The solo career of Fish continued with many solo albums and tours through the next twelve years. One facet of the tours was also the recording of official bootlegs direct from the mixing desk which would subsequently be sold through the Fish website. The idea for this particular live DVD emerged out of a drunken evening with friends in late 2001 when it was suggested that Fish perform a Marillion set at the fan club convention regularly held in Haddington. As with most alcohol-fuelled ideas once the alcoholic haze had worn off the idea was re considered. However rather than dismiss the idea it was agreed that it was in fact a rather good idea after all and a decision was made to poll the fans on the Fish website on which songs they would like to hear. It was decided that Fish would perform Misplaced Childhood in its entirety as He hadn’t performed it since the Marillion tour of 1986. Other songs were considered although in the case of Grendel dismissed. It was decided after checking the results of the poll that the Marillion set would include Misplaced Childhood, Script For A Jesters Tear, Fugazi and Forgotten Sons. Thus it was that the show would be filmed across two nights in Holland with one night featuring Marillion material and one night featuring Fish solo material. Volume one of this DVD contains the Marillion set performed in front of a sell out audience who were with Fish and the band every step of the way. As a bonus feature of the DVD part one of an interview sees Fish explaining how the concert came together and his reasons for doing the concert. For Fish Fans both these DVDs will be of immense interest as they compliment each other and present both sides of the coin as it were. Not only that but they feature material that has not been performed by Fish for some time.
