January 2000 WILLIAM
WALKER ATKINSON Your
letter to the Hull Register Office dated 9th December 1999 has been passed to
me. The
correct name of this person is William Walker Atkinson; many of his publications
are listed in the British Museum Catalogue of Printed Books (copy enclosed). Beyond
that, I'm sorry to say, I can not help you. We have a complete list of all the
residents of the UK at the time of the 1881 census, but I'm sorry to have to
tell you that, according to the census, there was no-one called William W
Atkinson born in Hull. There were only two people called William W Atkinson born
in the whole of the Yorkshire region: one who was born Leeds 1863 and was
a Private in the 84t" Regiment based at Tanshelf in 1881, and the other who
was 7 years old and was born in Whitby, the son of a Whitby jet worker. I don't
think that either of these can be your Yogi. Please
let me know if you do ever find out anything about his Hull origins. We would
like to claim him! Yours
sincerely, (signature) J G Watkins, BA, Genealogist & Publications Officer, Hull Libraries Hull
