KALBORN

Kalborn area near the Luxemburg German border, was at three times the scene of combat during WWII.

In September 1944, when elements of the 109th regiment, 28 ID probed the Siegried Line and captured several pillboxes on the opposite bank of the river.

During the operation of "Wacht am Rhein" the immediate mission of Krueger's corps, was to seize crossings at the Our River. The line of departure for Krueger's
corps began across the Our from Kalborn and extended north to a point
east of Burg Reuland. The bulk of his two divisions, as a consequence,
faced the 112th Infantry regiment.

By the end of January 1945, elements of the 3rd Army crossed again the Our near Kalborn. Although resistance had weakend they had to overcome again the defensive line across the river.
