11. Dual delivery

Dual delivery

Dual delivery

A dual delivery such as in my video on the falcon main page is one where you engage 2 targets at the same time in one pass. Or like some call it "one pass, haul ass!". But lets go even further and give an example where you do a dual delivery and at the same time assign targets to your other flight members, whether they are AI (computer controlled planes) or human players in a multiplayer game! If you carefully plan ahead and divide tasks you can complete the mission as a team in Open Falcon!

I recommend you use these instructions in combination with the noob guide and the Dash-34 in the docs folder of your installation. Also fly the tutorial missions in the tactical engagements section of the game. I cannot give detailed explanations since this would take too much time and space. I am only writing tips and summaries for those who already have familiarised themselves with the manuals. The noob guide (38 pages) is in fact a good summary of the more detailed Dash-34 (119 pages).

Example:
Objective: Destroy enemy airport's control tower, runway, fuel depot and radar installation.
Loadout:
- Flight lead 1 (you): 2 Mk84 dumb or free fall bombs (for the control tower) and 6 BLU-107 Durandal anti-runway bombs.
- Flight member 2: a laser guided bomb or GBU/LGB (for the radar installation)
- Flight member 3 (called Element lead): a laser guided bomb for the fuel depot
- Flight member 4 (wingman of element lead): a laser guided bomb for the fuel depot
Exexution: First of all study the mission planning screen before the flight to have a good mental picture of the target area and rotate and tilt the image in the recon screen so that it is oriented track up, or the direction at which you will be flying towards the target area. Ensure COM radios, EWS and other data cartridge options are set. Start the flight. During preflight checks, setup your avionics so that they are ready (arming delays, ripple quantity and spacing, profile 1 and profile 2, etc). In flight approaching target area, order your wingman (number 2) to attack the target which is underneath the cursor of your FCR radar. So search for the enemy airport's radar instalation, slew your FCR radar cursor on top of it (no need to designate!) with the thumb switch on your throttle and then press the wingman menu key or W key (qwerty) or Z key (azerty) 2 times until the menu appears where you see "1. attack my target" and press 1 on your keyboard. Your wingman will acknowledge and start his attack run. If the "attack my target" option is greyed out and unavailable, you might need to finetune your radar cursor overhead the target symbol and use a more detailed radar zoom level such as DBS2 for this.
Then, slew the radar cursor on top of the fuel depot (again, no need to designate) and press E-key 2 times to access the element orders menu. Press 1 to order your element (number 3 and 4 plane) to attack the target which is below your radar cursor (in this example, the fuel depot).
Now, you as flight lead will use 2 profiles in your SMS page. PROF1 for the 2 Mk84 bombs that will be tossed up into the air towards the control tower in CCRP delivery mode with a lock onto the target with the FCR. Then, quickly switch to PROF2 (hotkey ALT+SHIFT+7) for the durandals which will be delivered visually in CCIP delivery mode.
Do not forget to order your flight to rejoin you with the R-key (flight menu).

Alternate method:
If you're having a hard time finding targets on the FCR radar because you simply can't figure out what all these dots are, you can add steerpoints to your flightplan that will appear at exact GPS coordinates of the fixed targets you need to destroy. The easiest way to do this is in the mission planning screen just before the flight. Read the noob guide that comes with the installation of Open Falcon to know how to do this. As soon as you've added target steerpoints and the target's coordinates, there will be no need to slew your radar cursors in flight! Just select the correct target steerpoint and since the radar is by default in steerpoint mode, the radar cursor will be placed right on top of the current steerpoint or target. Now you can order your wingman to attack the current target that is under your cursor (e.g. steerpoint 5), switch to the next steerpoint (e.g. steerpoint 6) and order your element to attack, switch to the next steerpoint (e.g. STPT 7) and toss your 2 Mk84 using profile 1, and then do a visual CCIP delivery with the durandals.
