- In 2001, Yvoir
participates in the flyball
supercup. He's a part of a team of 5 dogs. The other four
dogs are border collies. Our team (Tornado Fireballs) is
competing for the final in our devision every week.
- Soon Yvoir will compete at the coursings too.
Pictures and (hopefully) results will follow.
The next three sports are practiced only for fun.
- In wintertime I do agility with Yvoir.
It's a good way to maintain his condition.
- a good way to get the attention from your dog is 'doggy
dancing'. the focus is on the handler. People often
think that you can't learn a whippet anything. Of course a
whippet will never reach the same level as a top border
collie, but thanks to the clicker training I'm able to learn
my dog a lot. The more I train him, the more attention I get
from him.
- Last but not least is the training at the racetrack.
Whippets are made to run and of the 5 sports, this is what
Yvoir loves the most (together with the coursings). Because
of the flyball competition I'm not able to give him the
optimal training. But even without proper training, Yvoir
runs pretty good. With a time of 23.65seconds, he's well
matched to the fastest racing whippets in the c-class.
| After all the action and after all the activity, Yvoir
competes with the greyhounds for the title of "ultimate couch
patato".

My goal was to find a small dog which I could work
with.
I wanted a dog with whom I could practice flyball.A whippet seemed to
correspond best to my demands.
It was very difficult for me to find a good breeder. I've visited
breeders of racing whippets and breeders of show whippets. The difficulty
was that I didn't just want a fast or beautiful dog, I wanted
both capacities in one dog.
That's why I can't grab the idea that one breed can be devided in
show- and workdogs. It seems normal to me that a good whippet should do
well both in the showring and at the racetrack.
After a long search and visiting many breeders, I finally found a
breeder of beautiful dogs that could run. I started to follow Nevedith
Supa Sassy and Vent d'Or Du Chawia and I was impressed by them.
Sassy was a best in show and coursing winner and is today a show
champion. I've seen them both running coursings a several times. Vent
d'Or Du Chawia is also a good show dog and a champion, but more importend is that he loves to work.
He has a certain "will to please" . Vent d'Or doesn't get
tired retrieving a ball and he loves practicing agility. I wanted a pup
from that combination.
At the Belgium whippetday 1999, my puppy was much promising. Later in
the youthclass, he has twice proven to be very good. I soon realised
that a beginning handler didn't stand a change in the showring between
the big names and stopped the showcarreer even before it had begun.
From that day, I've started training with Yvoir. Today I train 5
different sports with him.
