Currently working at the Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (FANC) as expert on natural radioactivity.

2004-2007: Research associate of the International Bureau for Environmental Studies (IBES), Belgium. Specifically involved with the management of the INTAILRISK project studying to the relations between radioactive coal and aluminium waste and radon emanation in a EU context.

2002-2004: Post-Doc Research Fellow at the
Structural Geology & Tectonics Group of the Department of Geology of the University of Leuven ( KULeuven ), Belgium. Research field: fracturing of argillaceous sediments: tectonism, petrophysics, microtectonics. Risk assessment for radioactive waste storage facilities in argillaceous formations.

October 2001-December 2001: Post-Doc Research Associate at the
Renard Centre for Marine Geology , University of Ghent ( RUG ). Working on the GASHYDAT project, which aimed at constructing and maintaining an on-line meta-database and homepage (www.gashydat.org) on Gas-Hydrate (Clathrane) information.

October 1996-September 2001: PhD student at the Free University of Brussels (
VUB ). Mainly working in the Ar-Ar thermochronology lab. Research Associate (to the present day) at the Royal Museum for Central Africa ( RMCA ), Tervuren, Belgium. Mainly working with GIS and Remote Sensing, structural analysis (microtectonics) and Radon-gas geochemistry, related to faulting.


Fieldwork

Southern Belgium (Ardennes)2004-present: Soil-gas emanation and exhalation studies in relation to specific geologic features (fractures and folds). Detailed geologic mapping, geostatistics and geochemistry. Radon Mapping of Radon  prone areas of Belgium.

Northern Belgium: 2002-2003. Detailed micro-structural study of sediment deformations in various argillaceous sediments and their relations to stratigraphy, to local/regional stress changes and to geodynamics. In cooperation with Prof. M. Sintubin (University of Leuven, Belgium) and Dr. S. Vandycke (F.P.Mons, Belgium).

Eastern Altai, Russia: June 1999 and June 2000. Study of the kinematic evolution of large intra-continental multi-stage strike slip sutures: Paleostress, paleostrain and kinematic study of the Shapshal fault zone. In cooperation with Dr. M. Buslov (United Institute for Geology, Geophysics and Mineralogy, Novosibirsk, Russia).

Lake Teletskoye Basin, Russian Altai: June-July 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000. Study of the brittle deformation related to the extensional graben formation: Fault kinematics, micro-structural analysis, soil-gas analysis for Radon concentration and exhalation related to fault zones. In cooperation with Dr. M. Buslov and Dr. V. Bobrov (United Institute for Geology, Geophysics and Mineralogy, Novosibirsk, Russia), and Dr. André Poffijn (University if Ghent, Belgium).

The Issyk-Kul basin in the Tien Shan, Kyrgyzstan: July 1999 and July 2000. Study of the brittle deformation related to basin development. Study of the Chon-Kemin active fault zone by remote-sensing, morphology and field geology. Supervision and guidance of Belgian and Russian under-graduate students during a summer field-school on active tectonics in Altai and Tien Shan. In cooperation with the University of Gent, Belgium, the United Institute for Geology, Geophysics and Mineralogy from Novosibirsk, Russia, and the Insitute of Seismology, Bishkek, Kyrgizstan (Kanathbek Abrachmatov).

Tuva Republic, Russia: June-July, 1998. Study of the Cenozoic evolution of different continental fault-bounded basins in the Altai-Sayan region. Timing, kinematic history and brittle micro-tectonics of the Ubsu-Nuur and West-Tuvinian basin. In cooperation with Dr. K. Theunissen (Royal Museum for Central Africa, Tervuren, Belgium).
