Y-chromosomal DNA, just like the family name, is passed from father to son. For that reason, the study of the Y-chromosome becomes a popular method, used by a growing number of genealogists.
To start an investigation of your own Y-chromosome means you have to do a DNA-test. Nowadays, many labs are offering such test. As a reader of the National Geographic magazine, I did the test by participating at The Genographic Project. On their website you find all the necessary information about the project and how to participate.
In the heading DNA-test: meaning I describe what you can expect from such a DNA-test. I also tell you about the possibility of adding your results to a worldwide Database. FamilyTreeDNA offers one of the largest databases in the world. Comparing your DNA with that of other people can give you some more clues about the road followed by your ancestors.
The Callewaert Surname Project is a webpage made available by FamilyTreeDNA where you can read the most recent testresults and conclusions. People with the same or a similar surname who subscribe to this project and start a DNA-test, get a reduction of 10 %.
In the heading Database Reflections I comment the comparison of my Y-DNA with that of other people in the database. I also refer to some DNA-tools.
Finally the Hypotheses are a summary of my findings and some conclusions I made for the time being.
