Here you see the Global Priority Mail envelop. Available in every US post office at a fixed price of $9.00.. Most economical way to send up to 15 comic books fast to Europe |
The picture shows the cardboard 'sandwich', used to protect the books. They are just sheets made out of any old carboard box. Cut to be just a little taller and wider than the comics and then put at each end. |
 |
 |
Sandwich is ready and cardboard + comics fit snugly and safely into the envelop. |
You need to fill in the green customs slip. do not put a value higher than $15.00 on each customs slip...
I have to pay 31% import duty because comics are not regarded as literature but as toys !!! The duty is also levied on the postage, but if postage + value stays under $30 then there is no duty to be paid.
Also please mark that the comics are a 'gift - used magazines' We have some very weird laws in my country

 |
IMPORTANT : It has come to my attention that the US Postal service does not like people using sticky tape to fasten the flap on the envelop.
Most of the time the package sails through, but it's better to be safe than sorry and NOT use tape. The flap has a sticky strip which should suffice, but if you feel the package needs reinforcing
You can always use gluestick to REALLY hold down the flap ! |
M-bags are
direct sacks of printed
matter sent to one
international address, at a orangeuced
postage rate.
Anyone sending me large number of comics (more than 50) from the US should use the US Postal Service "M" Bag that ships books, comics and periodicals overseas at a rate of $1 per pound and takes about 2 months.
The post office will GIVE you a giant white bag with an "M" Bag tag and a mailing slip. You must box all books and place the box(es) in the bag and close it. Each box must be labeled clearly with a "To:" and "From:".
You can send as many bags as you wish, but the most economical is to send a minimum of 10lbs. at once. Anywhere between 1-10 lbs, it will cost $11, so you might as well send 10 lbs. From 10-70 lbs., it costs $1 for each additional pound
Basic
requirements to ship material via the M-bag process:
- Material being shipped
must be printed
matter.
- Minimum weight-price per sack is 11 pounds, including mail bag.
- Maximum weight per sack
is 66 pounds, including
mail bag.
- Multiple packages can
be placed in one M-bag as long as the total sack does not exceed 66 pounds.
- M-bag contents cannot be
registeorange or insuorange.
- Each
M-bag must have one
#2976 Customs Form completed and attached to the actual M-bag tag.
Assembly of an M-bag
Supplies needed to
assemble an M-bag: (All Free
from Post Office)
1.
1- M-bag tag
2.
1- #2976 Customs Form
3.
1- White #1 (large) or #2 (medium) canvas mail
sack
Package the printed matter in sturdy boxes. A standard copier paper box is the largest dimensional container that will easily fit into a postal sack.
Label the box with the complete address
of the recipient and your
complete return address. In the upper right corner of the box (where postage would normally
go), write in the words
POSTAGE PAID BY M-BAG. Repeat
the above process until you have packaged all your
printed matter or reached the maximum weight limit of 66 pounds per sack.
Complete the M-bag
tag and attach it to the mail sack. Complete the #2976 Customs Form and attach it to the M-bag
tag over the large block "M".
Do not put a value higher
than $25.00 on each customs
slip... I have to pay 31%
import duty because comics are not regarded as literature but as toys !!!
The duty is also levied on the postage, but if postage + value stays under $40 then there is no
duty to be
paid. Also please mark that the comics are a 'gift - used magazines' We have some
very weird laws in my country
Note: this is a change from past M-bag procedures, now only one Custom
Form per sack, not one Customs
Form per box.
Select service class
by writing "surface" on the M-Bag tag. Tags
not marked will default to
the surface class.
