Flight Information
Brussels - New York JFK
Date of departure - Friday, 24 March 2006
Time of departure - 11.10 h (Local Time)
Time of arrival - 13.30 h (Local Time)
We had been told the check-in procedures would take a lot of time and would probably be annoying. They did! All bags were checked and we had to go through a strip search. All in all, it wasn't that bad, and I understand they had to do it for our safety. Once we were past the customs, our trip could start! We had a very good flight. And strangely enough, for a plane, the food was delicious!

We landed earlier than expected. Going through the customs again took a while, but it wasn't as bad as we had imagined. They were very friendly.
After a couple questions, giving our fingerprints and taking our picture we had finally arrived!

We took a bus to our hostel.

When we arrived we arranged the rooms and just dropped our bags. It was time for our first steps in The City!! We took the subway to Times Square. I was amazed by all the lights! Everything was so big, so shiny, so AMAZING!

We made a walk on 5th, passing the Trump Tower, Rockefeller Center, etc...

Later that evening we had dinner in TGI Friday's. Afterwards we could walk around on our own. We had to be at the hostel by 10.30 PM. We talked a bit outside and went to bed early.

We had to be ready at 09.00 AM and meet the others in the lobby. We went to Ground Zero and The Irish Memorial. We walked past the coast and trough Battery Park, a neighborhood I really like! From there we went to the ferry terminal. We had another 45 minutes before the ferry would leave. Some visited Wall Street, but me, Birgitt, Michiel and Maxime really needed a coffee, so we visited... Starbucks! :)

We took the ferry to Staten Island and back (we didn't stay there).

When we got back we were free to do what we wanted. We did some shopping in Soho and The Village. We came past NYU, which I think is interesting (no, this has nothing to do with a certain Miss Ashley Olsen going there... nothing at all... ;) )

We had to meet the rest of the group on Washington Square. We walked through Chinatown, Little Italy and The Village. I really love that side of NY! The houses are beautiful over there, it looks very cozy and just a nice place to live in. In the evening we had dinner near our hostel (pizza). Some people went out, I stayed at the hostel because I had had some back problems during the day :s I was sad to stay in, because the others had a great time, but it was for the better.

Again we had to be ready at 09.00 AM. We made a walk in Central Park.

We walked past the Guggenheim Museum. To bad they were working on it and we didn't have a nice view.

We visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We loved the house that you can see on the second picture!

We continued our walk in Central Park.

In the afternoon we were free to do what we wanted again. We did some shopping on 5th Avenue. Me and Birgitt walked all the way to the Flat Iron Building.

At 05.00 PM we came together at the Empire State Building. 86 floors! An amazing view!

We still had to visit Brooklyn Bridge that evening, but everyone was so tired. So we decided to check if what they say is true: Is everything possible in New York? I can tell you... it is! Or as our driver prefered to say: Nothing is impossible in New York! We called a limo service and 7 minutes later, 3 beautiful limo's arrived, just for US!

We got out on Times Square, everyone was looking at us! It was so great! Later that evening we went out. We were looking for the bar from Coyote Ugly, but we didn't find it. So we went somewhere else, which turned out to be a gay bar (a male gay bar, dammit!). We stayed for a while and returned to the hostel around 03.00 AM.

Yet again, we had to be ready at 09.00 AM. We left for the UN Buildings, meanwhile we passed Grand Central Station. We were guided through the UN Building, which was really boring :(

After the tour we were free again, so we did some more shopping! I bought a pair of Ralph Lauren sunglasses at Bloomingdale's. We went to see Madison Square Garden and had our last Starbucks coffee :(

At 04.00 PM we left for the airport and flew back home. It was a wonderful trip and I can't wait to go back to New York! I've left me heart over there!
