Non Profit Credit Counseling - non profit consumer credit counseling may sound like a good idea, but trust me, it is often not worth it. There are many non profit credit counselors out there who are solely in the business to cheat you. Don’t get me wrong – just because something is non profit credit counseling doesn’t mean it is a scam. Nevertheless, many of these credit counseling non profit organizations show the telltale signs of a scam. They will tell you that they can make it much easier for you to repay your debt, that they can reduce your payments by an amazing percentage with almost no financial risk or hardship. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Don’t trust non profit debt counseling unless you really know what you’re getting into. It could make your problems that much worse.
non profit consulting generally takes advantage of the trust most people put in non profit organizations. When you think of a non profit startup, the images it evokes are probably pretty positive. You might think of an organization out there to help the poor, delivering them from merciless creditors into a sound financial future. The reality of the situation is much different. Non profit credit counseling is nonprofit in name only. The whole thing often takes advantages of loopholes in the law to look better than it is. People often get into debt in the first place because they do not understand economics that well. Those same people get tricked again by non profit credit counseling. It is a losing move in a losing game.
I wouldn’t know so much about nonprofit credit counseling if it weren’t so near and dear to my heart. You see, a good friend went into massive debt through a nonprofit credit counseling program. He actually had to declare bankruptcy. Before the non profit credit counseling, he was not in very good financial shape, but he was actually still staying above water. The counseling program changed all that. Soon, he was in massive debt to merciless loan sharks. Basically, instead of helping him out, they cleared out his entire savings. This is what nonprofit credit counseling did to him, and what it can do to you if you’re not careful. Never judge an organization on its names alone. Find out what you are signing and research it as thoroughly as possible. Only then can you make a good, informed financial decision.
