BARBARIAN
Biography
Based out of Kain, near Tournai (Doornik), BARBARIAN started out in February of 1984. Their line-up comprised of vocalist Fabrice Burlandy, guitarist Dany Mabeyt, bassist Xavier Mol and drummer François Thiebaut. During August 1-3 1984 this quartet entered Studio Multitrack in Tournai to record 3 songs that would end up being used for the band’s selftitled 7" E.P., which was released on Gamm Records. Those songs were produced by their manager Jean Marc Montegnies and the bandmembers themselves. Engineer in charge was Jacques Herreman. The band's lyrics were always in their native (French) language. Rumour has it that BARBARIAN's live performances were way heavier than what ended up being immortalized on vinyl. Other songs that the band's repertoire included were Bourrean and Esprit De Fou. The Barbarian 7" was released in a cool b&w cover, displaying a skull, a couple of candles and a scarcely dressed and sensual black-haired girl called Véronique. The band added a rhythm guitarist after the recordings for the 7" : Rudy Laubel. On October 13th 1984 BARBARIAN was part of the Metal Maniac festival line-up in Tournai, which also included AMMA, ARKAHN, FN GUNS, GEISHAN and WHITE NIGHT.
