Biography

BRAIN SHAKE was initially founded in early 1982. The instigators were Serge Van De Poel (vocals), Johan Vermoesen (guitar), Peter Francx (bass) and Harry Van Espen (drums), and back then the band was still called STARDRIFT. A couple of weeks later the band did a try out show that turned out not to be successful at all, reason enough for the band to hide out in the rehearsal room for another 12 months. They also acquired a second guitarist : Geert 'Dirk Geert' Dierick.

Sometime around mid 1984 (by then the bandname had been changed to BRAIN SHAKE) the band felt comfortable enough to have another go at playing live. The occasion was an open air event in Ichtegem, together with AXEL and DESTROYER. Later on in 1984 both vocalist Serge and bassist Peter left BRAIN SHAKE. Only to be replaced by Yves Uyttersprot and Mark Van Den Bremt respectively.

After a show supporting TRIAL & AXEL at the Katholieke Kring venue in Moorsel (near Aalst) on February 2nd 1985 (which was in fact Yves' first ever gig!) guitarist Geert Dierick left the band. He was replaced by Hans Putteman. And when Hans left to join TRIAL in August of 1985 already, he in turn was replaced by Bert Pil.

The band had also intended to go into the studio to record a 4-song demo, which was set to include Streetfighters, Ride For Your Kingdom, Warhead and Heavy Boys. Most likely due to all of these line-up changes, this never happened. Fact is that a 2-song rehearsal was doing the rounds as a 'demo' in those days ...

On December 21st 1985 BRAIN SHAKE played yet another homegame in Moorsel, performing in between openers WINGED WARRIOR and TRIAL.

Fact is that BRAIN SHAKE was still around in 1986, as they were the opening band for the 4th Metallysee Festival on March 22, at the Sportschuur venue in Liedekerke. Other bands on the bill that particular day were EXPLORER, LIVING DEATH, GRAVE DIGGER and CELTIC FROST.

Drummer Harry van Espen later surfaced in HIGHWAY HAWK, while bassist Mark Van Den Bremt joined the likes of ALBION and RAMSES.

These days Serge Van De Poel is the vocalist for LORDS OF INDIFFERENCE.
