One of the most obscure bands to surface from the very south of Belgium in the early 1980’s was a quintet called BUSTED. They originated out of a tiny place called Suxy, near Neufchâteau, in late 1980. Their line-up consisted of Guido Pignon (vocals), brothers Philippe and Laurent Princier (guitars), Leo Barbillon (bass) and Albert Leroy (drums).
I don’t know much about the band’s history, but they did proceed to release two singles. Their first claim to fame (Got You By The Balls / Rocking In Belgium) was recorded in August of 1981, at the Le Grenier Noir Studio in nearby Chiny. Both songs are clearly in the traditional Hard Rock style of the day, nothing too spectacular, yet solid as a rock.
One year later, in August of 1982, BUSTED returned to the Le Grenier Noir Studio in Chiny and recorded two of their new songs. Both Heavy Metal Liars and You’re Busted clearly displayed the progression that the band had made over the past 12 months. While Heavy Metal Liars was in the Hard Rock meets N.W.O.B.H.M. fashion, not unlike Holland’s PICTURE (hence the title), You’re Busted turned out to be one hell of a fast and in-your-face heavy metal scorcher!
Just as was the case with their debut, this new 7” was released on the band’s own Betrayel Records. I have no clue as to how many copies of both singles were ever made, but it must’ve been a minimal amount, as copies only surface once in a blue moon. I tried tracking down these guys, in order to find out more about BUSTED, but all of my efforts were in vain. Needless to say that the P.O. Box address mentioned on the back of both singles has long since been out of order …
