EXOCET

Biography

Another band that I could find hardly any info on is EXOCET. They hailed from Brugge (Bruges) and started out in 1982. One of their guitarists, Jan Stalen, went by the moniker of 'Ian Steel' and used to be a member of ACID during their formative months. Eventually Jan was replaced by Dizzy Lizzy and then decided to start his own band, which became known as EXOCET. Other bandmembers at the time were JR Boothleg (vocals), Boule (bass) and Boozy Ronny (drums).

I'm not aware of any EXOCET recordings, or how long the band lasted in the end, but fact is that they played live at least a couple of times. On May 12th 1984 EXOCET and DESTROYER played at the Albatros in Zeebrugge. On May 26th 1984 they shared the stage with DESTROYER once again, somewhere in Zeebrugge. On June 23rd EXOCET supported BAD LIZARD at Reigerlo in Beernem and on October 27th 1984 the band played at The James in Aartrijke.

On December 1st 1984 EXOCET played in Sint-Kruis-Brugge, supported by TRIAL. And as a return of favour EXOCET were the opening band during the first Hard & Heavy festival at the Gildenhuis venue in Zele on March 23rd 1985. The other bands on the bill that day were EXPLORER, IRON GREY and TRIAL. The band is said to have had a hard time warming up the audience on that occasion, although they were on stage for almost an hour. During their final tune, Creatures Of The Night (a KISS cover?), Ian Steel smashed his guitar to pieces, but for the most part the band wasn't too energetic on stage.

The band planned to record a decent demo, or even a 7" or 12", shortly afterwards, but as far as I'm aware nothing ever materialized. And EXOCET was never heard of again ...
