Biography

SCAVENGER surfaced onto the scene after DEEP THROAT were forced to change their moniker in late 1984, due to the fact that a German band by the same name claimed the rights to the name. In those days the SCAVENGER line-up included Jan Boeken (vocals), guitarists Marc Herremans (ex BACKSLIDER) and Patrick Vanschooren (ex WICKED WIDOW), Roger Roscam (bass) and Luc Ebinger (drums).

Back in November of 1984, on the evidence of their one and only demo, DEEP THROAT had already signed a deal for three albums with Mausoleum Records. SCAVENGER played live at the Jagersborg venue in Maasmechelen on February 22nd 1985. Also in February of 1985 SCAVENGER began recording for their debut LP, which was supposed to be entitled No Return. The recordings would continue, every once in a while, for some three months. Produced by Ward Kuczynski and guitarist Marc Herremans, all recordings took place at Harry's Studio in Heist-op-den-Berg. The mixing took place at the Shiva Studios in Brussels.

SCAVENGER's debut release finally saw the light of day in September of 1985. The title had been changed to Battlefiels though, as No Return was considered to be no good by Mausoleum Records. Instead the song No Return was elected to be the opening tune on side A.

Shortly after the release of Battlefields guitarist Marc Herremans left SCAVENGER, in order to join WHITE HEAT. The band started an immediate search for another guitarist, as well as a competent manager. I don't know if they actually managed to do so, or not. Fact is that SCAVENGER was still around in 1986, as they played live at the De Vrede venue in Balen on April 18th. And according to a review in Mayhem Massacre # 5 fanzine, Marc Herremans was part of the line-up on that occasion. The last SCAVENGER show that I'm aware of was on October 4th 1986 in 's Gravenwezel, together with a band named VIPER.

Both guitarist Patrick Vanschooren and drummer Luc Ebinger joined forces with HELLFIRE guitarist Tony De Block for a brief period of time after the demise of SCAVENGER, in a project that never had a name. These days Patrick is the manager and roadie for his son Ibanez, who is the drummer in Belgian thrash outfit SCARRED MIND. Besides, Patrick also kept jamming with former WICKED WIDOW co-guitarist Eric Put on a regular basis, even to this day.
