Here's another little style-update. I've been trying to create an older nostalgic look. On request I posted some of my older "classic" cartoons. Check out Comics NOW ! :-) I'm going to nip some tea and listen to some good ol' Jazz. Thanks Blue Note Records & good day everyone !

15th of November 2005 ( 00.45 h )

JangoJim has been quite busy the last few hours ! Some minor updates and fixes, but new material in " The World of Charles Absolutely " : Artwork !
Additional info : I ate some sweet spaghetti for dinner ! Mmmm, spagnetic.

15th of November 2005 ( 00.05 h )

Yesterday I saw Wallace & Gromit, The Curse of The Were-Rabbit. Splendid movie, lots of fun and deliciously hand-made ! Go and see it !
There is also a really funny Short before the movie starts, starring the Penguins from Madagascar. Little extra note : I have my doubts about the Dutch translations for  " Were-Rabbit ". They came up with : " weerhaas " and " bijtkonijn "... riiight.
After a cup of coffee & a " Kriekentoertje " today, I decided to add a new section. First we need the oxygen, otherwise we can't breathe. So, new stuff available in " ART ". Ow yeah, in case you haven't noticed, the lay-out changed a little bit and our Monkey here got himself some fine tobacco. Cheerio and Njoy your stay in cosmos !

Dimiwebsite becomes Jangojim ! Today this website can be reached on www.jangojimenez.be . Why this odd mish mash ?
Quite simple : I found my pseudonym ! Jango refers to Django Reinhardt, whose music I deeply admire and Njoy. Jim appears to be the Greek abbreviation of Dimitri, my name. Jim...Dimitri ?  I know, Greek fellas have always been a little weird. No complaints on the food, though.
Last few weeks were again quite special. I visited Athens all of a sudden and 2 days later I was drinking coffee in an English Teabar...in England.
Heavens, I don't complain at all. Mid-November and the sun is still shining happily as if the girls were still walkin' around in bikinis...Life's sweet when central heating is only an option.

20th of October 2005

Check out "Comics" 'cuz "James And Mister Perfect" have arrived !

17th of October 2005

Today I discovered another great Jazz Musician, Charlie Hunter.
Definitely check out his skills with the guitar ! Speaking of Charlie, major update in " The World of Charles Absolutely " ! Njoy.

13th of October 2005

2 New Lampmonster Comics & Grush-page ! Today I came by a house and suddenly a fire broke out. Some dude with a bleeding hand sat next to me in the subway and kept talking to an invisible man. Nice day.

Well, I admit, it's been a month now ( time passes quickly when you're having fun...or...when you're busy. I had a lot of fun, but I was also kinda busy being sick. Tissue companies owe me one. )

19th of February 2006

Extract of the Magnificent Life Experience. Holy moly, two months, has it really been that long ? Indeed it has, the exams put me on hold and on top of that I was pretty sick for two weeks ( having inspected the ceiling very very thoroughly ). Luckily life is crawling in me again and I'm here with an update ! Life can be so great ( popular cliché ). And it takes a person to realise that from time to time, but sometimes it can be damn miserable too. And it takes a person to remember the previous.
Tool of the day : Umbrella. Stay inside, when Mister Rain is outside !
For you I added an Aztec-inspired drawing in "Art" and a comic in "Various Comics". Have a great day full of surprises. Njoy !

20th of December 2005

I visited the Comic Strip Exhibition in Turnhout two days ago with a good friend of mine, Julian ( visit his site as well if you like. Drawing, Photography, Pop culture and Reviews are his thing ). With no entrance fee I didn't know what to expect, but it turned out to be the best comic strip event I ever visited ! Lots of art, artists and stuff to buy. I stumbled upon a young talented artist named Conz. I bought his first book "Toen ik nog baas van de wereld was". I really enjoyed and highly recommend it.
Today was again a close one. During the busride home a large truck hit the exact spot where I sat, leaving the window completely shattered. Except for the bus no one was harmed. I believe this was probably a mild intimidation from those terrorist pigeons I imitated vocally.
Considering this website I've got some fresh food for ya : A new cartoon in "Various Comics", A new drawing in "Art" and an update of "Grush". Time to drown a teabag ! Hava smashing day !

5th of March 2006

Hi there folks ! The struggle of the snowflakes and the sunrays continues in the streets. Yesterday, a workshop "Comic Strip Drawing" started again in Antwerp and I'm happy to join it. Expect more drawn stuff soon ! Extra extra : Mysterious lady in "Art" and 2 classic comics in "Various Comics" ! May I also propagate the delicious online game "Samorost" and it's sequel ? No ? Ok, sorry, it won't happen again. Do yourself and me a favour and Njoy the day !

12th of March 2006

Sometimes I am really amazed what a difference a day makes. One has a great themed party, gets up, watches a movie, goes to a real good Palestinian Jazz concert and eventually ends up in an Irish pub till 4 A.M. discussing philosophical issues about freedom. Not that this changes my life, but the fact that you can never fully predict what your day will be like, makes it all the more interesting. If you're stuck in routine, get out and do something unpredictable. Dare to chase the pigeons, steal a sad face and exchange it for a smile. Mr. Panda Enjoys The Simple Life and you can see him in "Art". Ow yeah, forgot to mention that I added a Guestbook to the site ! So please, knock yourself out and add your comment, greeting, insult, joke,... ! Njoy & Groovy Greetz from Jangojim.

NEW ! A dazzling scoop into the upcoming Charles Absolutely comic !

You can find the first concept art here !

Wow, it's been lightyears again since I've posted something. You know how it goes...you have some fun, study a little bit, have some more fun, study a bit more and woops, 3 months have passed. If anyone would be interested in my highlights of the past few weeks:
In March I turned 21 ( some of my best friends REALLY got me with a surprise act ), in April I was part of a jury for a cartooncontest from CJP ( great experience and the food was good ). In May I suddenly had the opportunity to see the concert of Carlos Santana in Antwerp. It sure rocked ! This month will mostly be occupied by  'exam-thingies'. Enough about my life, how are YOU doing ? For you now I have 2 new comics in Various Comics & A new section on the right of this page covering Concept Art for the upcoming Charles Absolutely comic ( tadaaaa ) I'm gonna swallow some more pages now. Njoy & have a smashing day !

16th of June 2006

Hi there ! Just a quickie. Last week quite an experience, while starring as an extra in a "Stella Artois"-festival-commercial. Lots of fun, drunk people and 50 takes of fake headbanging in a dazzling heat. Having not slept yesterday, I'm gonna take a serious dive into the world of dreams. But first : A NEW LAMPONSTER COMIC. It has almost been a year now, so I thought he needed some extra tales. Njoy ! Thanks to all of you for signing my guestbook, I send you my good vibes :)

15th of August 2006

Buenos Dias, I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays in a sunny place, because winter started early in Belgium this year. I went on a language camp in July with "Camp Roeland" to teach Frenchtalking teenagers some Dutch. And it was a dazzling experience, like the prototypical Hollywood-blockbuster filled with action, romance, comedy, fear & drama. I underestimated being a teacher, it's a hardworkin' job. And along last month I took a dive into a new project : a mural, a.k.a wall-painting.
I made a quick colourful & complex concept for a youthclub, called "AHLAN", which is Arabic for "welcome". The drawing will appear on a wall between now and september. For your pleasure I modified it into a printable postcard ^_^. To be seen in Art.
Something else: since two days I finally have an electric guitar ! It's a BURNS, type "Marquee", red and white. To express my joy ...I made a drawing about it :P. Also, to be seen in Art.
Henry the fish has a few tales in the comics section. Njoy ! More to appear soon.
I can still bore you with this...I'm acting in a play with a group of friends. Première in November. It's about a party and deals with some people's quest for happiness. Have a wonderful colourful day !

17th of August 2006

A quickie. What do I do when I actually need to study, but my mind is elsewhere ?  I begin to draw, draw like a madman ! Fill-the-paper-frenzy !
"Life is complicated 1.0", you can see it here in Art. Recommended paper-filling action for everyone who needs therapy :). Have a beautiful blissful day.

18th of August 2006

Another quickie. Today I hit my head on the bus. That was ouchy. But makes you feel alive.
I drew another silly comic, starring "tapdancing Benny". I also tried, while daydreaming, a different  comic. A more spontaneous pencil-style. Little tales about something and nothing: Daydreamin'. Add sugar and cream if you please. Have a baklava-sweet day !

7th of October 2006

Let's just say September was pretty loaded. Wawaweewaw..I entered the annual "What's your excuse" contest of Mekanik Strip in Antwerp. Sadly enough, I had to send in previous work due to a lack of time. I didn't win, but I got a lot of supporting comments and the free food was great !
I also started painting a mural in Antwerp two weeks ago. I hope to finish it soon. The concept can be found in the post of August 15, 2006 as a postcard.

On the 24th of September I was to be seen at an art event called "Lambermontmartre". I sold 5 limited cards instantly and a strange guy came by asking for drawings of nude pregnant women... I quickly drew a nude pregnant mermaid (to keep things slightly decent) on a paper cookiebag & the obsessive man bought it right away! The mermaid is gone, but I did manage to scan all cards.
October is gonna be a busy month as well, because University life started again and together with a group of fellow students we're starring in our own play. You can see the limited cards and the gory poster for the play I made in Art.

8 October 2006 is an important day for our country. The Elections will be held, but apart from that it is also "24  Hour Comics Day".13 countries over the world are participating. The goal is to create and draw a comic of 24 pages in 24 hours. I will be representing Belgium too. Hop by if you like in "Bries" comic book store, Kammenstraat 41, in Antwerp from sunday 10.30h A.M. till monday 10.30h A.M.!

I am now the official cartoonist for the UA magazine "DWARS" for the University of Antwerp. You can see my first contribution "kunst" together with another "Daydreamin' comic" in Various Comics.
To end with a little snack I have another Lampmonster comic.
Something I'd like to add here: some people see an "ipod" as a symbol of escapism, but the way I see it...it's an enforcer of the Magnificent Life Experience. Grab life & have a sweet shiny day !

8th of October 2006

In the middle of the night, not in a jungle, but right here, Jangojim posts a typographic drawing " Jazzy Twinkles " on request in ART & a new comic in Various Comics about the Opera. It's far from subtle, I admit, but I felt like drawing something anti-high brow culture anyway. A warmmm shiny surprising day to y'all ! I'll be drawing comics till monday morning today... ^_^
18th of October 2006

I give you the result of 24 hours of drawing, I admit I'm a slug :) and don't look for a multi-layered compelling storyline. I made it up on the spot, but boy this was such a great & enjoyable experience !
> 24 Hour Comics Day ! Sweet popcorn to all of you..
My Contribution to 24 hour Comics !

Jeez Louise, what have I been up to ? I visited Berlin 2 weeks ago. Awesome city, awesome. It has a kickass architecture, marvellous museums, a fascinating history & Starbucks too. Pity we had to leave the day The International Filmfestival of Berlin started, but I did touch the red carpet Cate Blanchett & Robert De Niro would walk on. They'll be seeing me again :).

I fixed myself a fine new blog. Now, the blogging hype might be a little exaggerated and I want to point out I'm not gonna throw my complete private life on it, but a blog is just damn handy to quickly post new random stuff that might not fit in somewhere else. And optionally you can comment on it. Splendid, right ? There you have it. My explorations feature tiny comix, animations, photo fun etc. To be visited on: jangojim.blogspot.com

I'm having some guestbook & webaddress difficulties as you may know ( or not ), but I hope to fix those little buggers soon.

For the people hungry for more drawings, I'm here with some new stuff. Life is Complicated V2.0 and Life is Complicated V3.0. I also present you a New York-like city scene, based on a poster of Fritz Lang's masterpiece film "Metropolis", right here. And to conclude, a new cartoon, which is also featured in the magazine "Dwars" for the University of Antwerp.

2007 will be very interesting. Let yourself be amazed and do those things you always wanted to do. Experience the world before you grow old, fill your life to the brim, smashing greets from Jangojim.

27th of March 2007

Gadzooks, today this website can be reached via www.jangojim.be !
Exciting times again, I saw a drunk guy eating glass, started learning the Greek language, found out more about surf music and vintage B-movie posters, am into several projects again ( a logo, another website, stickers, buttons, a graphic novel...more about all of this soon )and unexpectedly I turned 22 last week :).

What do I have for you ?
A brand new cartoon for the magazine 'Dwars' from the University of Antwerp. Funny story about my previous cartoon in the magazine:
finally people liked my cartoon :), but almost all of the magazines got stolen by a club of young right wing extremists because the magazine featured a "controversial" article about them. Fortunately they were as dumb as to admit proudly to the newspapers they had done it, so they had to refund all of them :).

Don't forget, I have a blog as well which is updated frequently with new stuff ;).

My recent activities could and still can be followed on my blog:

jangojim.blogspot.com

But this does not mean that this website is dead. On the contrary, I'm breathing new life into this baby, like good old uncle Frankenstein.

I've been up to a lot of stuff, published illustrations for the Etnographic Museum in Antwerp,  got to work on stage at the Rock Werchter Festival for artists like Milow, Air Traffic, Rufus Wainwright, AIR, The Beastie Boys and Dr. Lektroluv. I also managed to sneak in the private lounge of MUSE and finally was able to watch them perform on the main stage while standing on the main stage myself. That was wayy too cool. I visited Berlin again and was invited to visit the animation studios that brought you "The Little Polar Bear". I also saw humping rhinos in the Berlin Zoo
(a rare happening).

In August I took part in a drawing session of performer/writer/poet/comedian/... Vitalski, while he was being interviewed for 20 hours. A great experience. Sorry to the cleaning team for the mayonaise on the floor :).

My first stop on the African continent was Tangiers last month. Morocco proved to be a very interesting experience. Lots of new flavours, impressions, smells, sand, camels and monkeys. Pretty exciting too, I saw the king of Morocco; my best friend Adil El Arbi (promising young director) and I almost got arrested by local police while making illegal documentary footage about the bad condition of the biggest school over there :). I also stayed at the same hotel Matt Damon (anyone still able to take him serious after watching "Team America" ? :p ) resided in while filming "The Bourne Ultimatum", of which I saw various movie locations. Groovy. Dinner time proved to be a bit different as it was Ramadan, the Islamic period of daytime fasting. Nevertheless interesting to order something in an Arabian McDonalds restaurant.

Right now I'm working on several eye-popping projects, so stay tuned. Some hot comics coming up.

If all turns out right I will be drawing storyboards for an upcoming Belgian movie. More about this secret project soon.

Let me also propagate a unique workshop in Antwerp about The Graphic Novel that I will attend as I'm working on a large graphic novel project with Peter Devoecht. Don't hesitate to visit his fine Blog : DWR BUDR.

Let the mind-juice flow and have an exotic autumn time. Woot woot woot !
