Edison Community College - The new Edison Community College Campus is on its way. Though the classroom floors are covered with dust and at least half the windows are still missing, the $22.5 million site is coming along as planned and will open soon.
Edison Community College is located in west-central Ohio twenty-five miles north of Dayton and eighty miles west of Columbus.
As a comprehensive community college, Edison Community College provides learning opportunities for career preparation, university transfer, and industry training. The community offers convenient access to cultural, social and recreational activities.
The current Edison Community College campus offers degrees in nursing, radiological technology, emergency medical technician, business administration and management, legal assisting, fire science and criminal justice. In addition to new degrees, there will be new courses, such as art, astronomy, geology, foreign language, music, marine science, finance, theater, computer assisted design and health and wellness.
But the new, nearby development on its 200 acre site will provide more opportunity than ever to Edison Community College students - and handle an increased enrollment of 5,000 students.
As far as academic opportunities go, the number of associate in science degrees available will almost double. New ones include accounting, computer programming, computer applications, hospitality management, international business and business data processing.
To teach all these new courses, Edison Community College staff will be increased by fifty percent. Reading material for all courses will be available at the new high-tech library, which is about the size of the current campus.
The new campus with its 200-plus state-of-the-art computers the campus also will have a room dedicated to distance learning. Students there will be able to communicate through a two-way audio-visual network to professors and classes on other campuses.
Also, the new facility will have an impressive astronomical observatory with a state-of-the-art 14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope financed by a donation from a local couple.
