University Of Central Florida - The dynamic University of Central Florida was established little more than four decades ago, but it has already made its mark as one of the most important institutes of learning in the land.
The University of Central Florida is a public, multi-campus, metropolitan research university, dedicated to serving its surrounding communities with their diverse and expanding populations, technological corridors, and international partners.
The mission of the University of Central Florida is to offer high-quality undergraduate and graduate education, student development, and continuing education; to conduct research and creative activities. It also aims to provide services that enhance the intellectual, cultural, environmental, and economic development of the metropolitan region, address national and international issues in key areas, establish the University of Central Florida as a major presence, and contribute to the global community.
Florida Tech officially began on June 10,1963, when the State Legislature passed an act authorizing the state board of education to establish a state university or a branch of an existing state university in the east central part of Florida, including the counties of Flagler, Orange, Seminole, Lake, Brevard, Volusia, Osceola, Indian River and St. Lucie. The resulting Florida Technological University - thirteen miles east of downtown Orlando - was re-named the University of Central Florida on December 6, 1978. It is now one of the state’s eleven public universities
Its original Enrollment of 1,948 students has grown to over 42,000, who are offered a choice of eighty-six Baccalaureate Programs, sixty-eight Masters Programs, three Specialist Programs, and twenty-four Doctoral Programs. In its short but prestigious history, 120,000 Baccalaureate degrees have been awarded, as well as 23,000 Masters, 366 Specialist and 1,200 Doctoral degrees.
As well as the main campus on Orlando’s Central Florida Blvd, Central Florida University now boasts its Professional Development Centre, Central Florida Research Park and Florida Solar Energy Centre, as well as four beautifully appointed regional campuses.
