Butte College - Seventy miles north of Sacramento, the Butte College is nestled in the foothills of beautiful Northern California’s upper Sierra Nevada mountains. In the center of Butte County, Butte College’s 940-acre campus is a designated wildlife refuge.
Butte College enrollment hovers around 12,000 students and between 450 and 550 students graduate each year.
Butte College offers classes in a wide field of majors ... degree transfer and certificate programs in lower division arts and sciences and in vocational fields; basic skills instruction, English as a second language, and support services that help students to succeed at the post-secondary level; educational alliances and partnerships with local and regional business communities in the interests of promoting economic strength, tracking workforce needs, and upgrading the workforce; adult non-credit education; and community service courses and programs.
Working closely with Butte College Television, Butte College offers expanded learning opportunities. Television courses will continue to be offered for the home and at other designated locations in Chico and Orland. Beyond that, plans have been intensified to experiment with newer forms of teacher/classroom participation.
Currently, Butte College Distance Learning enrollment stands at over 2,500 students per year and is rising. Available program time on each of the four Butte College television channels is pushing full capacity. The only area for real future expansion is, Butte College believes, in online classes.
The main focus at this time includes working closely with staff and faculty to unveil some new classes on the Internet. Lots of hoops need to be jumped through, but things look promising so far. In fact, some faculty has programs even now ready to go.
Changes and advancements in newer technology are happening faster than most people can keep up with. Butte College will be working hard to channel this technology for the benefit of its students.
