Even as a large, complex university with more than 28,000 students, Central Michigan University maintains a friendly, small-college learning environment with a strong commitment to teaching, research, and discovery.
Central Michigan University is a doctoral research-intensive institution offering more than 170 programs at all levels - bachelor’s, master’s, specialist’s, and doctoral. Students experience learning through real-world problem solving and close interaction with their professors.
More than half of Central Michigan University students complete internships and co-operative work experiences, and many students participate in applied research, leadership training, volunteer and community service, international study, and professional clubs.
As a doctoral research-intensive university, Central Michigan University offers opportunities for discovery and scholarship at both undergraduate and advanced levels. Undergraduate students conduct research as early as their freshman year. Faculty members work with students at all levels conducting research that makes a difference in today’s society.
Central Michigan University competes at the NCAA Division IA level as a member of the Mid-American Conference. With a long tradition of athletic and academic excellence, Central Michigan University’s scholar-athletes have earned the Mid-American Conference Academic Achievement Award six of the past seven years, and Central Michigan University athletics teams have achieved many recent successes, including two men’s basketball MAC championships in the last three years and a berth in the 2003 NCAA tournament. Since joining the Mid-American Conference in 1972, Central Michigan University’s athletic teams have captured 59 league championships.
Central Michigan University’s Off-Campus Programs is one of the leading and largest providers of off-campus programs in North America. The program offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and operates in more than sixty locations throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
