Southwest Student Services assists schools, parents and student borrowers at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional school levels by providing low-cost federal and private education loans. And their products, services, and benefits are tailored to meet a wide variety of customers’ needs.

When asking about loans through Southwest Student Services, do remember that there is a great difference between subsidized and unsubsidized borrowing.
The federal government pays the interest on a subsidized loan through Southwest Student Services while you’re in school, during the six-month grace period or during periods of deferment.
But if you secure an unsubsidized loan through Southwest Student Services, you are responsible for the interest while you’re in school, during grace, repayment, and periods of deferments. During your in-school or grace periods, interest payments can be made quarterly, or you may have them deferred. If you choose to defer payments and depending on when your loan was first disbursed, the interest will accrue and will be added to your loan balance at the start of repayment.
It is in the student’s best interest to select a lender like Southwest Student Services that only capitalizes upon entering repayment.
SLM Corporation, commonly known as Sallie Mae, announced in Fall of 2004 that it has reached agreement to purchase the outstanding stock of Phoenix-based, Southwest Student Services Corporation - the largest such organisation in Arizona. The transaction includes Southwest’s student loan portfolio, which today totals more than $4.5 billion.
