Golden West College - Golden West College is a two-year community college providing post-secondary education and lower level tertiary education, granting certificates, diplomas, associate of arts degrees, and lower-division classes transferable to other colleges and universities.
Just half an hour’s drive from Disneyland, Golden West College is located in Huntington Beach, California, thirty-five miles south of Los Angeles. Sometimes called Surf City, Huntington Beach is a seaside city in Orange County, in southern California.
Golden West College is largely a commuter educational facility serving the local population and with a mission to provide inexpensive education in the trades, licensed trades and skilled professions, as well as remedial and transferable lower-division courses for students who plan to transfer to either a California State university, or a campus of the University of California.
The aim of Golden West College to serve local students is, perhaps, reflected in the cost of tuition. For California residents, costs are about $11 per unit. For non-residents, costs are about $300 per unit. A typical two-year program has sixty units. Students need a certified transcript from a high school, and a grade average of two or better for admission to nonremedial courses.
Golden West College is one of three in the Coast Community College District, a regional organization providing administrative services and funding for post-secondary education. The district is chartered by the State of California.
Two-year associate of arts degrees are offered by Golden West College in everything from law enforcement and nursing to automotive repair and stage management (Golden West College has a 500-seat auditorium with a full proscenium stage).
Golden West College also has complete, transferable lower-division undergraduate programs in subjects ranging from mathematics and physics to acting and dance.
Because of an emphasis on local enrollment, on-campus housing is not available at Golden West College, and local housing is expensive.
