MORAL HARASSMENT AWARENESS TRAINING

On June 11 th 2OO2 the new Belgian law on prevention of acts of violence, moral and sexual harassment at work was introduced.

Definition

Moral harassment (bullying / mobbing):

any form of abusive and repeated behaviour from outside / from within the organization that may take the forms of:

  • Behaviour, language, intimidations.
  • Actions, gestures, unilateral writings.

with the purpose of:

  • violating the personality, the dignity, the physical or mental integrity of a worker or any third party at work
  • putting his employment at risk or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment

In this frame the employees role and responsibilities are:

  • to participate to the employer's prevention policy
  • to refrain from doing any incriminated act
  • to refrain from filing malicious complaints

The role and responsibilities of the employer are:

  • to analyse risks
  • to set up a 5 years prevention plan and annual action plan - Section on violence at work
  • to appoint a Prevention & Protection Advisor
  • to appoint a person of trust
  • to inform staff about adopted measures (Working Rules Regulations)

In order to help organizations to create a workplace where people want to belong to, the Mobbing Prevention Team is giving an interactive awareness show.

The goals is to inform, to help to detect signals, to recognize harassment, to act and to prevent.

As most victims react against the employer and not against the aggressor a good management policy is important. Harassment has a large impact on the productivity as 12 % of the victim quits, 12 % reduces the quality of their work deliberately, 22 % is doing less efforts, 28% loses time at work to avoid bully and 52 % loses productivity by focusing on the situation.

During the show, the participants get acquainted with the differences between harassment and work pressure, with the risks of moral harassment due to wrong management reactions and with the shared responsibilities in the workplace not only from the perpetrator but also from the colleagues who do not react to prevent the escalation of violence.

The show is built on the concept of business theatre, with moments of interactions of the participants with each other and with realistic tips and tricks on the subject. The approach is fresh, dynamic with moments of humour although the subject is serious.
