Troubleshooting: Software

General

Error Codes

If CD Speed or other software which uses low-level access to CD/DVD-ROM drives aborts with an error you will get an error code which indicates the type of error that occured.
Click
here to see a list of all possible error codes and an explanation.

'Unable to initialize WINASPI32.DLL'

You must have an ASPI manager to use CD Speed 99, DVD Speed 99 and CD DAE 99.
Unlike Windows 95/98, Windows NT and Windows 2000 do not have an ASPI manager so for these operating systems you need to install one.
If you have an Adaptec product you can install the aspi32.exe (see links).
If you don't have an Adaptec product you can use this file: http://www.johny.sk/cdrinfo/files/Aspi_Me!.exe
You have to set back the date, install the program and restore the date.

CD Speed

Mixed mode CD's

The current version of CD Speed will not test mixed mode CD's (CD's which contain both data and audio tracks).
If a mixed mode CD is inserted the start button will be grayed out.

Burst rate test

The burst rate test is mainly intended for SCSI drives.
With some Atapi drive/driver combinations this test can cause CD Speed to crash.
I'm working on a solution for this.

DVD Speed

Testing with DVD Video's

Most DVD Video's use a copyprotection called CSS which locks the disc and makes it impossible to read data from it.
If such a disc is used for testing the drive with DVD Speed, the test will abort with error code 056F03.
A solution for this is to unlock the disc by playing the video with a software DVD Video player which will unlock the disc.
The disc remains unlocked until it's removed from the drive or until the system is restarted.
You can immediately shut down the DVD Video player after you started to play the disc.
A list of DVD Video players and more information on the CSS copyprotection is available at
http://www.dvdutils.com

Error when testing near the end of the disc

Version 0.1 has a bug which can cause an error with some discs when reading at the end of the disc.
A new version with a fix will be released soon.

CD DAE

No problems found yet.

CD+G Creator

Playing CD+G (Karaoke) discs on a PC

You can download a DOS CD+G player from
http://www.karaoke.com/downcdg.html
A Windows version can be found at: http://www.microstaff.co.jp/download/free/scrocdg.html

You will need a drive which supports reading R-W subcode channels where the graphics information is stored.
