Revell 1/144 Schnellboot Gepard-klasse 143A

Main parts assembled, white spots are putty, not so good fit at some places as you can see :

model in gray automotive car primer, lacking the small parts, Hawker Hunter is in same scale for comparison of size. Vertical bars sticking in front and rear deck are temporary supports for painting. (update 2004)

After a long break, I decided to work on it again starting with painting the waterline.

I found some very thin (1 mm) maskingtape on ebay, with this it is easy to get a straight line on a curved suface, this would be impossible with normal tape. You can also cut very thin stripes to get the same result but it's more work.

Now you can mask the rest using larger tape and paper.

Paint the underwater surface with red oxide (I used Revell brick red N°37 for this), let dry for an hour time and remove the tape. If there is overspray you can clean it up now with thinner as the paint is still tacky. (update february 14th, 2006)

More masking on the way for the decks (non skid surfaces), a boring job but essential for a good result

It begins to look like a ship, now preparing all the fiddly bits. (update may 3rd, 2006)

Time to finally get this thing together. All small parts are cleaned up. Just a matter of painting them before adding to the model.
I bought some Aber PE 1/150 railings sets, the kit railings are way too thick (and were removed at the start from the build). (update sept 4th, 2007)

I painted most of the parts, did a coat of future/klir and then put the decals on. (update sept 13th, 2007)

PE-railings on, oil wash and finishing off. (update sept 24th, 2007)
